since the first 997 Turbo came out - it uses variable turbine geometry technology which essentially eliminates turbo lag...it is on at pretty much all engine RPMs.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since I bought my Porsche, my family has followed suit - brother bought a 996 Turbo but my sister topped it off last week with a 997 Turbo.
It is an amazing car. I drove it around for about 40 miles this weekend and it is finest piece of engineering I have personally driven.
I thought to myself - OMG now how am I going to go back to my normally aspirated 996...and it was answered yesterday on a 250 mile trip - I enjoyed driving my car so much on that drive that I realized that although there are large differences, it is not enough for me to regret owning my 996
Hot damn that's nice! The P-car disease is not spreading through my family but it is spreading through my neighborhood. early boxsters are popping up everywhere.
A drive in a well sorted N/A 996 can be as rewarding as a drire in anything else. I've felt that when I've driven my '99 Cab. I've driven faster cars and raced much faster motorcycles for years, but the total package is hard to beat. I've driven my car it the canyons and come away feeling that this is as good as it gets and had a feeling of ultimate satisfaction. On the street and in the real world often times a good and well put together vehicle can be more fun and rewarding than an ultimate race machine whos limits are impossible to come close to.
I vote for a family group Pic..
+1 too much car for your sis... unless she's a speed demon...what are real world mpg's on 997 Turbos?
and on the other note, yes a nicely modded NA Pcar does wonders in regular day to day ( not rush hour) driving.
Add to that a cabrio and a fine-tuned exhaust note... no radio necessary...
should I send her my picture?
DAY-AM!! Nice car...
I'm kinda ugly, but I do know how to keep that toy looking clean for her
I wanna come to the family parties too !!
OH - sorry
Your sister deserves the nicer car. After probably years of keeping you out of trouble or at least covering for you
She deserves 2 turbo's if she ever had to change your diaper. I hope your whole family is doing well.
Oh please, what does too much car for someone even mean? Beside that fact, I'd wager that upwards of 90% of the people that own Porsches (much less any other sports car) doesn't even get close to the limits of a given vehicle...
Now for the stepping back down into an N/A 996 issue, there's a way to fix that...
Wow:
All in the family....looks like Michael-Dallas beat me to the (obvious) punch line.....she available? Let's see, some flowers and a 5 gallon gas can with some premium fuel, now that oughta impress the heck outta her?
Sweet color choice too!
LoL . She's married...she owns her own company (software).
She married her college sweetheart - who was the football captain. (no she wasn't a cheer leader but she was considered one of those 'hot geeks')
Okay,
any other female family members we should know about....even if they haven't pulled the Pcar trigger.....yet, perhps I might be able to call "dibs"....no better not, my wife would not see the humor.......... I'll just tuck back under the car cover.......
What a beautiful Turbo, and yes they are a joy to drive, but obviously over-engineered, and over powered for driving around on US roads. Expensive toys are great, but for my money I'll stick with the 996.
Hope she is ready for some serious attention from the law with that red!
So I drove it for about an hour and EVERY CAR that I drove by waved or gave me the thumbs up. And I live in Boston where nice cars are everywhere...and trust me I don't get nearly that attention in the Midnight Blue C4 even with the top down!
On my 250 mile drive yesterday I was driving with traffic around 85mph and a state trooper chose to stop an Acura MDX that was behind me!!
Speaking about the limits:

Wow, very nice. Good for her!
As for Ferd saying that was too much car. Re-read his post. To me, and I'm sure the way Ferd wrote it was as a joke. Sort of like, "too much car for you why don't you just give it to me"
I'd also say the number is more like 99%
I test drove the 997TT last year. It felt more like GT coupe than sports car. Very muted, there was definitely turbo lag, extremely stable. It's a beast in a tux.
Really? There was no turbo lag I could experience... since the first 997 Turbo came out - it uses variable turbine geometry technology which essentially eliminates turbo lag...it is on at pretty much all engine RPMs.
But yes I agree with your description of 'beast in a tux'
naturally we all wish the best and knowing how much I have gained (and how I have seen the growth in other drivers) from going to the track and getting some seat time with a qulified high performace driving instructor in a controlled environment - I cannot expess enough how important that training is... and even more so in a Turbo with its huge HP ratings and serious get up and booggie power!!
a good brother would buy her the first day
You are 100% correct! We live in Boston - what do you suggest - where's the closest place where she (and I) could learn how to better understand the limits of the car...
Love the Turbo 911s:
Excellence #184 August 2010
Porsche claims 2010 Stock Turbo: 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. Excellence reported 2.8 seconds.
WORKS : 997-2 Turbo that does
0-60 in 2.6
seconds
That's fine and all in a brochure, but drive it in 3rd and punch it. There's lag.
But that's just a part of the game of going forced induction. I'm more of a GT3 guy, but do respect the Turbo's awe inspiring all-season performance.
Beautiful car. But I intentionally chose the relative simplicity of a C2.
Would I want & enjoy a TT? U-betcha. But just because you like one wine, doesn't mean you can't appreciate others.
PCA membership needed for some events....and in my case a "local chaper" membership too
but at $12/yr its not like it's a deal breaker. We have a good web site and a full calendar of fun things to do. Tours, De's, Concourse, Wine tasting, and a whole lotta other things.....a real time waster
RS:
Suggestion, if you haven't done it, join the Porsche Club of America. You will be in the Northeast Region (check out pca.org and look for Northeast region- I moved from Boston-). As a member of the PCA you will have access to various track events. Your local club has info ("Drivers's Education") on their website and I'm sure that any inquiry you (or your family makes) will receive a quick response. Once you join, you can check the various tracks and sign up with other Porsche clubs to attend the track(s) you want to attend and the dates you can make it.
Then there are also a number of other groups you can drive with PDA (Performance Driving?) which is associated with North America Sports Car Association (NASA) there is Hooked on Driving and a bunch of others.
For what it is worth, (IMHO) you are best off learning to really drive your vehicle by attending a PCA region hosted event. Ours have unique dymanics (i.e. engine in the rear) and this is a key point. The PCA instructors are totally in-tune with P-car dynamics and your safety.
Once I did it, I was adddicted, although it may not be for everyone. And (not surprisingly) through the club and DE's I have met some really great people (from many different regions) and look forward to seeing them and driving with them when I attend an event.
BTW: it is called driver's education, and while it is NOT racing, it is not timed, etc., it is competitive as hell! The comradierie is fantastic...
one other little note, please check with your auto insurance, the large majority DO NOT cover events that take place on "tracks" (even the parking lot). There is track insurance available at "moderate" costs, and the overwhelming majority, I will assume, do not bother with track insurance, just so you know. "Stuff" happens, but if you were to look at the numbers of participants, the amount of track time, you will see that "incidents" are relatively rare. For someone like yourself, you will be assigned to Green run group and have an instructor sitting shotgun..........safety and " the line" will be the focus, so you really don't need to worry.
BTW: once you get addicted, there is no cure! (And that is a good thing!
