i planned to buy kinessis or fikse's, but the OEM 5 spoke are within 2 # of those expensive wheels, so i got another set of 5 spokes and i run RA1 on track and street.

The hollow Turbo Twist can be found for around 1,500/ used per set.

if you run toyo, the closest size to factory would be 275-35-18.

I've narrowed it down to Turbo Twist hollow or Carrera 5 spoke. It seems the 5 spoke Carrera is the lightest wheel. The cheapest set I've found is 1,800 for a perfect used set. The hollow Turbo Twist can be found for around 1,500/ used per set. Is there any other light wheel, that is less then 1,500/set I should look at.
Is 4-5 pounds a big difference in weight between wheels. I'm going to use MPSC or TOYO RA-1 for tires because you can flip these when you put them on the other side. My car is a 2001 996 C2. I would like 8x18 f and 10x18 r wheels with 225x40x18 front tires and 285x30x18 rears.

Amongst 18" Porsche wheels, these are the lightest. There are some aftermarket wheels which are a bit lighter, but not by much. They also tend to have some problems depending on use. I'd stick to the factory wheels unless your needs are for special sizes or applications.
I would not worry about a 5 lbs weight difference since you intend to use the car for DE's. I would buy a comsmetically less than perfect wheel that fits in your budget. The MPSC's and Toyo RA-1's have received good reveiws so you've chosen well. They're both equally popular in my area.

What size are you running up front? I'd love to have a light, good looking wheel and use the same tires on the track as well as the road. I drive my car 4-5 days/week. I wonder how long R compound tires would last.

i run 225/40/18 and 275/35/18 toyo RA 1's. i run them on street and track.
i logged 12000 miles on my 996, inlcuding 3000 track miles. i needed two sets of R compound to cover these miles. i drive this car ALOT. 12,000 miles were logged in 3.5 months. mostly to and from track.
