Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run with it off' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust comfort level' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You can improve the efficiency of the A/C tremendously by selecting max cool and then using the blower speed to adjust your comfort level.

Does running the A/C aid in heat dissipation from the engine?

I had my car overheat summer before last while running the AC.

Running the AC, in the end, generates heat for the engine.

Yes in the "old days" you could run the heater to drop the temp a little, this would recirculate engine water/coolant through the heater core, sort of like having another radiator.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When driving at the track (whether DE or autocross) do you have the A/C on or off? I normally run with it off, assuming that it would rob the engine of some power. Is this assumption correct? Would it better to run with it on 'Auto'? Does running the A/C aid in heat dissipation from the engine?
AC is disabled at WOT (foot to the floor, "wide open throttle") IIRC. So it would rob the car of some power mid corner and corner exit, when you're rolling onto the throttle. I expect the change in power from 95% throttle with AC to 100% throttle without AC might get a little annoying.
AC does not aid in heat dissipation, the exact opposite is actually true. Running the AC, in the end, generates heat for the engine.
I would leave it off.
I run with it off. Windows are open anyway in regular DE. I don't know the percentage, but you can feel the AC cut in when cruising down the highway. Might as well use that power to cut to the apex quicker on the track.
is the A/C run off of an electric motor or is it belt-drive off of the engine? i thought it was run off of an electric motor since the condenser is in the front of the car but the engine is in the rear. or do they run the hoses all the way under the car from the compressor to the condenser? that seems really inefficient.
we've run track events in 115 degree heat, with ac blowing on high and the windows open! o'wise, there was no other way to survive those conditions.
fwiw, someone on gt3 board dynoed their car w/ and w/o ac blowing, and the difference was 1 hp--you wouldn't notice it. at wot, the ac does not cut-out on a 996.
I find it hard to believe that the AC on that GT3 didnt cut out under WOT. 1hp could very easily be dyno error, or due to changes in engine temperature.
If its hot I leave mine on for DE. Who cares if you have a few less hp, not a race anyway. I'm sure I lose more lap time by not driving perfectly than I do by losing HP to the AC.
In my first club race we were waiting in the pits for a car to be cleared so I rolled up the windows and turned on the air. It was brutally hot out. Sure enough, I rolled down the windows but, being very nervous, forgot the A/C. I'm guessing I'm the only club racer that has run a race with the A/C on.

The AC definitely makes the engine run hotter. The horspower, I can spare. I had my car overheat summer before last while running the AC. Since I've had the third radiator installed, I've not seen a repeat of that. On humid (rainy) days, I'll run it to dehumidify the air.
Would running the heater help cool off an engine that was getting too warm? Not that anyone would do this, just curious. Does the heater work by merely taking heat from the engine to warm up air that is directed to the cabin?
Yes in the "old days" you could run the heater to drop the temp a little, this would recirculate engine water/coolant through the heater core, sort of like having another radiator. Like I said, this was back in the muscle car days, I'm sure it would apply to any liquid cooled engine
You can improve the efficiency of the A/C tremendously by selecting max cool and then using the blower speed to adjust your comfort level. This way the A/C compressor will run a lot less often, lowering the direct engine loading, the airflow entering the engine water jacket cooling radiator will be predominantly at a lower tempoerature, and you will still remain cool and comfortable.
I have been a passenger of an old "Ring fox" around the Nurburgring in a GT3, he had the AC on and said he would rather drive in comfort than loosing a few hp.
