Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was daydreaming and accelerating in 1st and I redlined it going over a bridge. I think I thought I was in my pickup with automatic. I don't know what the hell I was doing. It was a shock when the my RPM's cut off and my hands came off the wheel!! I almost had a stroke! That's the Rev limiter or the PSM right? Is there a difference? Like my ex used to tell me, "are you new or something?"

POST 2Original post

Rev limiter....accellerate hard on sand/gravel or with wet pavement....then youll feel the PSM kick in.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay I get it. I am lucky I didn't get rear ended.

POST 4Original post

Rev limiters classicly cut half the cylinders spark determined by the manufacturer so it isn't cylinders that will throw the engine too far off balance.

POST 5Original post

IMO you should be spending time getting to know these systems so they dont catch you off guard. I was so used to the threashhold braking point on the 996 that I could just pop it into ABS if I wanted to and not have it even phase me.....because I did it so many times!! I knew exactly what was going to happen and how to respond... I bounced the rev limiter a couple times, but not more than a couple and if I had PSM I would be out getting the feel of it... thats 1/2 the fun of having a system - using it, and thus understanding it go out this weekend and get the PSM to kick in a few times for the hell of it - trust me, your car wont care and you will learn a lot of what will happen good job keeping it on the road today

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wasn't driving the car properly. Not paying attention. Dumb. I learned a lesson. Freaked me out. I need to go to a DE for sure to really get the hang this wonderful machine.

POST 7Original post

Hey, no harm done. I am not passing judgement. Like I said WTG for keeping it right. A DE is a good way to learn. In our region we have "skills days" which have a skid pad we wet down, an emergency braking station, and several driving skill events all at low speeds and we get into these systems to help explore them and the limits. I love both types of events. Wish all areas had the skills days as its great for people who may not want to go 140+ mph, but want to learn the cars. This month is womens only - naturally I will be there volunteering

POST 8Original post

Completely different things with very different feelings too. It was definetely the rev limiter. When you hit the rev limiter, you basically feel like the engine is no longer working, loss of acceleration, & a sound like fast multiple revs... When PSM kicks in it'll most likely be because you're sliding around, losing traction, etc. & the feeling will be like something just grabbed you & put you back on rails... It's actually kind of annoying on the race track when it kicks in. The DE is a wonderful thought! Join POC or PCA & get out there. The appreciation I had for my car multiplied times a billion after going to my first DE. These really are wonderful machines. Yours is niiice too. Love the color & aerokit. ... By the way, I saw your introduction thread & noticed you said the dealer told you your wheels are HRE. What a small world. My car has the EXACT same wheels as yours & the dealer also told me they were HREs. Except mine had the Monarch center caps on them, so I googled Monarch on my iPhone, found the model, & showed him & was like "uh... No they're not" hahaha.

PSM is great to learn on snow. Wait, you live in Long Beach....I have a great idea - We trade houses this winter....get to know all about PSM AND enjoy the festive ambience of wintery days, warm fires, shoveling snow, potholes, slush, wet cold feet...... Sounds pretty nice, huh? Ya know what I'm sayin'

The is exact feeling I got when my PSM kicks in. At it scared the Bageezus out of me...but it also tells you that you pushing the car real good. When I get better on the track the PSM button is coming off.

Ya. Homie don't think so!

POST 12Original post

+2 on the DE. It is such a rush to get out on the track and begin to get a feeling for what these cars can really do. ...and believe me, you'll know when PSM kicks in! Its the car's way of telling you that you're not giving it the proper "inputs"

POST 13Original post

We all benefit these days from these systems, especially when we're having a senior moment. When I used to drive my real 911 (back in yesteryear) we had to stay on our game all the time. We get a lot of breaks today! Glad it worked out. Remember that first shift comes up very fast in these cars.
