He was in the San Diego region so he dropped it off too (Nice chap !) Its a regular halogen set, clear with the clear triangles.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
I just got a call from the shop saying that the lamps we waited on arriving for 2 weeks are NOT clear !! They have the yellow stuff below. Of course, mine is a 1999 996, so I need the
OLDER STYLE
(like boxster) clear headlamps.
Now I'm really busy in the morning (sneeking this in a meeting :O) and wanted to tell him in a few hours, so I thought I'd also ask you guys to short circuit my research (sorry!).
Do you guys know of some places (online/SouthernCalifornia?) which sell
CLEAR
headlamps for (relatively)
CHEAP
?
Thanks in advance !
I lurked for a year trying to find clear's. The words clear and inexpensive do not go together
My thought was if I am going to pay $600 for clear, why no throw another $400 and get Lits (which is what I done)
Actually I don't mind $1000 for lithtronic. Where did you find this ??
I also don't mind $600 for clear headlamps. Where did you find this ? ebay is around $900. Then plus shipping ! Pain ... I don't want to pay too much in shipping ...
Thanks
Have you contacted Sunset Imports (cost + 15%):
http://www.sunsetimports.com/porscheatcost.php
Fill out the inquiry and they usually respond within 24 hours. They almost always have the best pricing (new parts).
For used parts, I would try Oaklahoma Foreign, LA Porsche Dismantlers, etc.....
Sunset quotes $1640 for a pair of clear headlight assembly, regular.
The lithtronic upgrade kit (pair of liths, wires etc) is $1550. So lithtronic is cheaper than regular lamps !! Double checked this with them - go figure !!
Anyway, I don't want to spend $1500 for headlamps right now on the lamps. This is a side work done one some other $4-5K work, so I don't want to spend more right now at least. So the hunt for cheaper (= less than $600 for regular or less than $1000 for lithtronic a pair) continues ...
rbennett seems to have found just that, but I'll have to wait till he responds ...
One year ago, I paid Brandywine $1099.95 for the Litronic upgrade kit for my 2000 Cab. That was the lowest price I could find at the time. Saw their ad in Pano.
Sounds as if, like the PSE kit, the Lits have appreciated quite a bit in price over the past year.
I checked their eBay ratings. Pretty high ratings ... hmm. Let me try calling them up.
By the way, do you guys know if Boxster headlights fit the 1999 carrera ? In terms of fit/finish as well as power consumption on the electricals ??
Thanks in advance ...
Ok. I'm surprised nobody here is ready to sell their clear halogen lamps ... people ... please upgrade to those lovely lithtronic lamps. Then sell me your old halogen lamps for cheap.
!
Seriously, I guess very few people have done the regular -> lithtronic upgrade ... tried renntech, rennlist and 6speedonline ...
I also found this stuff about the 996 vs boxster lights (halogen, non-lithtronic/non-xenon)...
I found out that they are identical in fit and electricals. BUT
996
===
- has a diamond pattern on the inner silver polished surface.
- has an auto-leveling system so that the lights always shine as intended, not up or down when you suddenly accelerate or brake
Boxster
=====
- has a line pattern on the inner silver reflective surface
- don't have the 996 auto-leveling system inside
Thanks
Sid
Sid, let me know if you got what you needed from tentster or that eBay seller. I didn't even see this thread until now. Mine has been sitting in a box since I upgrade to litronics back in '04. Mine also come with the clear triangles as well.
Good luck!
