Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So below is first of photos of a rather plain (unmodified) 99 996 C2. Hope that, with my membership check, gets my foot in the door for some advice on that most odious (heh, heh) and costly, but essential, of topics: new mods. First: due to medical issues and medications (cue violins to play) I drive very little anymore. In fact, I was going to sell it last week to someone who would get more use from it, but my wife and neighbors prevailed on me to keep it since i need to drive to drugstore and doctors about once a week. Wife's brother will end up with my car if I, well, uh, get hit by a truck or something. Her thing is purses and ear rings - big surprise, there. So, I told the wife, fine, I'll keep it, but I'm going to have installed some long desired mods postponed due to gruesome med exams, etc over the last year and a half. Can't afford all of below, but maybe half, depending on costs, including install. Given above, respectfully solicit advice. !. I have always disliked the cheap-looking black plastic console/CD player surround and would like to replace it with ocean blue color match or, if that is not possible, aluminum (preferably real, not the plastic stuff). Also, while on interior, alum pedal set and alum bezel rings. 2. My brakes work fine but would like to have dark blue calipers replaced with red or yellow OEM (with Porsche name). Is this like too vain, or what? And can I get just the calipers? 3. I really like aerokit side panels, the ones that flare out alot, and the turbo-look nose (like the one the doc is selling). I like those humungousl gaping intakes. Two questions: will the side areo's lower the car much, because there are a lot of dips enroute to my destinations? And, is it plain WRONG to have turbo look front on non-turbo P-car? 4. And, of course, I'd like new pipes - PSE - and probably don't need toggle switch. At this point my philosophy is, let em ticket me. In fact, to save some bucks I was thinking I could just take an icepick to the current can and get some more noise . Relevant facts: tan supple leather seats and locked compartment cover, door inserts, brake handle, etc. Ocean blue exterior. 18 inch wheels, stock shocks, suspension. Pirelli P-Zero M&S tires. No garage. I am unable to do much of my own work other than very minor stuff, but the Arlington Porsche service guys have been great - they know my situation and won't rip me off. thanx very much and sorry for the long missive.

POST 2Original post

By the sounds of things you deserve to treat yourself. Just do it. Whatever you do keep the car. Take it the track and give yourself a thrill... I wouldn't paint the calipers blue. IMHO I would leave them black but other than that a standard Porsche colour. I would do things in this order: 1: exhaust. Gotta listen to the music. 2. lower the car. Get the M030 option. 3. get the aerokit sode trims and decent wing. 4. get some decent wheels. I like 19" but many dont. Colour macthed techart wheels would look amazing on your dark car. 5. put some decent sounds in the car. If your feeling really up to it: 6: face lift the car and while your at it put the turbo front PU on. Enjoy it.....life is too short

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanx. I apprceciate the support from the home of the Beatles. Is your avatar YOUR car? It looks sweet and I wish I could see a larger picture.

POST 4Original post

Thanx. Here's some pics. Yup home of the Beatles. In fact I was born in a house on Penny Lane! Must put up some more pics of your baby too.

POST 5Original post

One of the first things I'd like to do in my 911, would be to place the 911 logo. Just like Scouser's car... I don't like Carrera logo. 911 what a nice figure I don't have my own 996 , but I hope it will not arrive so late... I'd bought the 911 Millenium logo, and it's hanging up my wall...waiting for the car The pic,.... ha ha

POST 8Original post

For what my 2 cents is worth, I say keep the car no matter what. As far as mods, do whatever makes you happy. I've been going through these threads and the one thing I find is that everyone does something different, which is actually what makes P-cars so great. It's been fun seeing who is doing what where and how it looks. Re: the interior, check out BumperPlugs.com website. These guys have everything and will paint just about anything to match your car. They just posted a thread on a new interior they did and it looks fantastic. Re: exhaust, I'm upgrading mine as well to get a much better sound. There is a thread that's still pretty current called "PSE Group Buy - Anybody Interested". Check out that threat. We are going after a Dansk system which, from what we've been told, is the PSE system without the switch. There is some feeback from guys as they have purchased and installed the system. Three of us so far haven't purchased yet, waiting for feedback on the Sport vs. Super sound. I'm sure you could still get in on it if you give Dayton at Departstop.com a call. Price is $850.

POST 9Original post

Hello from a fellow Washingtonian (Bethesda). On question 2 I'm a bit confused. You say is it possible to get just the calipers? I'm guessing you're under the impression that you need to replace the calipers for the different colors? If that's the case, good news, you don't. All you have to do is get some caliper paint and decals (for the PORSCHE lettering)...there is a thread on here somewhere about this, just about any bodyshop should be able to do that for you. On 4, if you really are thinking of saving bucks, there is a way to turn the stock exhaust cans into sport ones without a switch. There's a thread on here somewhere about this too. Basically if you take off the stock cans there is a tube thats blocked off, you just have an exhaust shop cut off the end of that tube so that it won't be blocked and then weld in a bit of pipe going from that tube to the existing tube. POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanx, all. I have already contacted bumper plug and hope they can do Ocean Blue. One issue I must discuss with them, in choosing between color match and aluminum, I spoke to the Porsche service shop and they were not too keen on color match, said paint can chip or crack when pieces are being flexed to install. Maybe aluminum look is sturdier. I have heard of people painting calipers but was not aware that there are porsche decals to go on them. Where would I get the decals? great idea, though, I can have a body shop install the bumperplug console pieces and paint the calipers at the same time. This saves me money so i can do more mods!!!!

POST 11Original post

I found the thread about painted calipers and decals. See post #8 (the second post by the original poster of the thread) here https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...inted+calipers He says he got them from www.xenonmods.com

POST 12Original post

Hey Serene, Great to hear you're keeping the Porsche! and you have kept it in pristine shape!!! I love that color. Speaking from limited to no experience with mods, I will put in my 2 cents that the exhaust notes are thoroughly enjoyable. I hate driving my boxster because it is too quiet. In previous post, they show how any muffler shop can mod stock cans to sound just like PSE for like 100- 150 bucks... Maybe worth trying.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanx to all. I've been somewhat impaired the last couple of days but I'll hopefully be able to wash and take more photos tomorrow. I am taking ALL of your suggestions and will research and come up with a comprehensive mod strategy. Can someone tell me what is a good source for side aero's and should I go OEM (AND IF SO WHICH STYLE WOULD LOOK GOOD ON MY CAR).

POST 14Original post

mostserene - Go with the OEM Mk I side skirts. They were designed for the '99 - '01 cars and have nice, soft lines. Check out Brandywine Porsche for them. They ran an ad in the May 2006 issue of Excellence magazine (page 125) and had them listed for $599 (MSRP is $886). Also, let me know if you have any questions about painting the brake calipers.
