Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My CDR-220 was doing odd things like that and was replaced under warranty.

It was like that one complete trip, then I restarted car hoping it would reset itself but no luck.

In case you haven't figured it out...DONT use any Armoral or vinyl cleaners on the Becker radio buttons or volume controls.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was in my car when all of a sudden I heard 4 beeps from radio and then it went black. The CD had power because it would grab and release a cd, but no lights no buton worked to turn on. It was like that one complete trip, then I restarted car hoping it would reset itself but no luck. I was again pressing buttons like a demon, and I pressed both rubber *****, I think it turned it back on.
Question 1: why did it go dead? Is power to press both *****? On my 2003 Boxster power is left ****. but that is a cdr 23 not cdr 220 like in 911.
Question 2: when radio was out, i noticed a rattle from (PSE) exhaust when starting from a standstill, once moving rattle stopped. Is it a loose heatshield somewhere? is it a DIY?
Thanks in advance
Robert
My radio did that once in my 996. It seems the front face had become partially detached so it would not work. Try opening the security face, removing it and then fitting it back in properly.
My guess is the rattle is always there, but you just noticed it b/c the radio was off.
1. That sounds like the routine my radio goes through when I open the faceplate .... as if to insert a CD ..... then do nothing. After several seconds, 4 beeps and the radio shuts off. CD insertion mechanics are available even when the radio is turned off.
2. Have no idea what your rattle is .... but, if it is a heatshield as you speculate, then it is an easy DIY to tighten. Rear bumper removal is a matter of about 8 screws, the bumperettes, & unplug the tag light. Pull off the bumper and you will be looking at the heat shields and their fasteners.
Dunno about number 1.
Number 2 may be your cats. I've had 2 cats go bad, and the first sign was a rattle at idle, and just off idle as in starting from a standstill. Either you or the dealership can hit the cats with a rubber mallet, and if one of the cats produce a rattle, then it's the culprit.
I can just see it coming. Next post will say I'm gonna get rported to the SPCA for hitiing cats with a rubber mallet.
I just had the same thing going on with the radio in my '99, so I bought a new one from Stephan who advertises on eBay. Although I paid $275, it came very professionally packaged, take-out pins included, security code, new leather face case, new manual, and a warranty. I send in my old one in the pre-paid box, and I get a core charge back. I looked at a number of the CDR 220s on eBay sold by private parties, but decided to go with someone who knew the radio, professionally went through them, and provided a warranty. I'm happy, and those damn unsightly Becker buttons aren't all chingered up. In case you haven't figured it out...DONT use any Armoral or vinyl cleaners on the Becker radio buttons or volume controls. It turns the volume controls to mush and makes the buttons peel. Apparently a common failing of Becker OEM radios. Chuck
