Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys I'm kind of in a dilemma. I have a lapis blue stock 911 c2 with the 17' rims and I'm trying to decide between the mkI aerokit and a new set of wheels. The wheels would either be carrera III 18" or the Champion rg5 18'...I know big price difference. Anyways any feedback would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I voted for wheels first. Since you have 17s on your car, the 18s (Champion or otherwise) will dramatically change your look. You can always add the aero kit further down the line. Adding just the aero kit and rolling on stock 17s will look a bit awkward IMO Maybe post a pic of your car so people can visualize it?

POST 3Original post

Your car will look silly with an aero and small wheels. Go for the wheels, then buy your parts. Perhaps you should have searched for a car with these parts already. You're going to be spending some money for factory parts. IMO, I wouldn't go for cheap aero knockoffs, get factory parts! Then you'll want to lower it............................................... Good luck!

POST 4Original post

Yep. Voted for wheels. Aero stuff can come later, besides you may like the look without all the add-ons. You do need to lower like Dallasboat said.

POST 5Original post

Wheels, Wheels, Wheels. As said above the aerokit would look funny with the 17" wheels. In addition, the wheels give more than just a visual benefit at reasonable speeds. I am planning to do an aerokit but is primarily for looks, I don't track the car and how often do most of us really go fast enough that the aerokit really affects the performance.

POST 6Original post

wheels... everyone that voted aero just wants your car to look funny. :P

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

lol yea i guess u guys are right...The kit would look pretty akward on 17's. I'm actually thinking of getting the 18' carerra III wheels and lowering it. Does anyone have any pics of the carerra III's on a 996? pics of my car can be seen here https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=37536 You just have to scroll down a little

POST 9Original post

Had a very similar situation with my 2000 cab- went wheels first, skirts later (a few weeks, anyway). Just as with any mods, once you start, it's had to stop!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i know it's like a that damn vw bug commercial where the car is always on the guys "mind".

POST 11Original post

If you had 18's then Aero, but with 17's you need WHEELS first! Then work on the Aero when costs allow.

POST 13Original post

I would install just the aero kit side skirts and think about buying some used 18" factory wheels. While the turbo twists are pretty common, they do look decent on the car and are pretty cheap. Along with lowering the car, you'll have a much improved look (IMO), for not so much $$'s. These photos show my car w/Turbo Twists, then Sport designs. A factory MO30 suspension was installed before the 2nd photo was taken and may have lowered the car just a little bit. The ride ht. looks decent and isn't too big a problem with driveway curbs and such. Joe

POST 14Original post

Wheels/suspension/then the aerokit. Maybe a SSK between somewhere in there.

POST 15Original post

wheels..car wii not look right.....I have 3 sets that I am willing to part with, A man can never have too many sets of wheels.then pound it, then areo kit.. A few pics to show you how different wheels can make a car look!

POST 16Original post

How come those who voted aerokit have not spoken up! Let's hear it

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I've decided I'm going to go with wheels and H&R's first. Hey kilgrt can you pm me with prices and types of wheels your willing to part with. Again thanks guys for all your feedback. Hey Joe...love the car and color really gave me a good idea on how wheels, kit, and suspension will look on my Lapis Blue.

POST 18Original post

I also agree with the opinion on wheels. Kilrgt, what wheels are you willing to part with and at what $$? I have factory 5 points and looking for a second set. One for track, one for street. thanks, Steve

POST 19Original post

I would go with wheels 1st. Here are some pics of my buddy's 996 when he was going trough his getting new wheels phase. He ended up getting the 19" HRE 549R's. Good luck, Luis

POST 20Original post

Man that HR is a nice wheel. I am willing to sell all 3 sets, Then it will give me a excuse to go buy more! We can do like a little miny ebay PM with what wheels you want and an offer. The BBS LM come with the tires (SO3's) i would say 80% left and the GT3 rims and turbo twists II no tires. I might have to sell all 3 sets to get that HR. I think it was wise to do the wheels first by the way!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

are the turbo II's the hollow spokes?? by The way those HRE's are nice...Is your friend on coilovers??

POST 22Original post

go for the wheels! i made quick something how it could look. was difficult to find rims in a suitable angle...

POST 23Original post

Nope, he has a Bilstein Shocks & Eibach Springs Suspension Kit.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks pzgren! yea that helps me visualize a little better. I broke down and ordered a bunch of mod's today...I have a sickness and I have a feeling it's only going to get worse, DAMN YOU PORSCHE!!!! Well I ordered bumper and door plugs, clear sidemarkers, silver carrera logo, and H&R springs. So next up is the wheels, I'll post pictures as I go along if anyone is interested.

POST 25Original post

Yea I think the mod bug we all have it, it just stays dormant until the very second the Porsche hits the driveway. It suddenly awakes and you have this burning desire to mod. In same cases the bug can get very sever where you order parts even before the car hits North American shores. This is what I like to call Happiness!! I think I can speak for all of us, when I say yes we are interested in seeing the pics after

POST 26Original post

Deffinately wheels first. As others have said, the aero pieces would look silly with the 17's. Good luck, lots of nice wheels out there to choose from. Cheers, Stan

POST 27Original post

What do you mean "if anyone is interested?" Hell, yes we're interested, because we are pic ******! Well, some of us are pic *****, but that's another story!

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL...well the stuff should be in next week minus the wheels. once the stuff is put on I'll get some before and after pictures. Got to wait a little though for the springs to settle before taking the pics. Soon all your pic whoring needs will be fulfilled

POST 30Original post

and then some mods to get some Hp... and then..... and then..... and .... and..... welcome to the club!!!!!
