Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported fix
There was a kit that replaced the seatbelt receptacle that fixed it.
Leading evidence: 'Replace seatbelt receptacle' (1 discussions report resolution; 0 report an unsuccessful attempt). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'deposits' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). I don't remember if disconnecting the battery will do it.

All of the BMW Dealers that I have gone to simply replace rotors with the brake pads.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking at a 1999 996 for sale and the dealership says that the rotors need to be turned. Is there a history of rotors warping on the 1999 models? The car only has 25K miles on it and I am curious why the rotors would need any work at all. The airbag light is also on. Is this a sensor thing?
Thanks

Modern rotors are usually made to thin to turn. This is done to save weight. I know that when I reidi the front brakes on my C4 at about 30,000 mi. I took the rotors to a machine shop. They had no problem with the drilled holes/slots, Just wasn't enough material to take off and leave them up to spec. This is not just a problem on Porsches, I had the same problem on my ford Expedition and other cars. Rotors are just made thin to save the weight. You can get new rotors for abount $100@ if you search around, same manufacturer as Porsche uses, just not labeled Porsche. Or for a little more go to Sunset and get OEM.
I would never turn rotors on any car. As Dharn55 stated the rotors are very thin to start, and turning them will simply make them thinner and more prone to warping. All of the BMW Dealers that I have gone to simply replace rotors with the brake pads. I'm surprised that any Porsche Dealer would even offer to turn the rotors.
99 996 rotors are not prone to warping. I still use factory ones on my race car. I only go through one set a year. Actually, there is a pretty accepted train of thought that there is not such thing as a warped rotor. The pedal shutter is caused by deposits which are removed in the "turning" process. I have a good article on it somewhere.
Anyway, as has been mentioned, the rotors are so cheap you should just replace them or have the dealer do it.
The airbag light was a problem on the 99. There was a kit that replaced the seatbelt receptacle that fixed it. I think the kit was only about $75 and you might have to have the light reset at the dealer. I don't remember if disconnecting the battery will do it.
Good luck,
Jim
Is it a Porsche dealer of just a used car place? If someone is telling you to turn rotors, I'm worried about other bad information they may be providing you...good luck in this process.
I think the rotors may have some light pitting due to not being driven. I will drive the car a while and if need be, put net rotors on. Should not be a big deal to do myself. Having the car inspected at Brandywine Porsche next week.
Thanks for the help guys!
