I kept the CDR220 in by 00 C4 cab, and replaced the dash speakers with Focal 100KP's and the doors (I had the hi fi option) with 136KP.

This can control a CD player in the trunk, or can be used for an Ipod input.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is it a direct plug and play when I take the 210 out? Also, does it improve the abismal sound of the 210? Finally, does it have additional inputs on the back for XM, Ipod or a CD changer? Just wanting to know if this is a worthwhile upgrade. Thanks, Pat

POST 2Original post

It is a direct plug and play swap. Make sure you get a CDR 220 2001 or earlier as the newer cars went to the most (fiberoptic) bus and are not compatible. A cdr220 has an extra aux input on the back. This can control a CD player in the trunk, or can be used for an Ipod input. Search the threads here and you will find lots on post with info on how to do this. Finally, the CDR220 won't do anything for the quality of the sound, this is the speakers. Again, look at the threads on this. I kept the CDR220 in by 00 C4 cab, and replaced the dash speakers with Focal 100KP's and the doors (I had the hi fi option) with 136KP. Incredible difference. I will be adding an amp, but even without this the new speakers sound great. The stock Porsche speakers are trash.

POST 3Original post

Patric, It should be a direct swap. However, If you really want improved sound I would go with an aftermarket headunit instead of the cr-220. But, it doesn't matter how good of a headunit you have it the speakers suck. If money is a factor in your decision, IMHO I would start with better speakers. This will help with the sound until you can upgrade the headunit and amp. If money is not a problem, replace it all, headunit, amp, and speakers. For some ideas, do a search in these forums and check out Car Audio Innovations website.
