the gt2 will never ever excite me teh way a cgt does and that's where it hits a ceiling whereas in the cgt, the sky is the limit, repair bills included, but again, who cares.
Leading evidence: 'Repair bills included' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Granted, 'ring times are difficult to compare when they are set on different days due to varying conditions.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

From its 530 hp, low curb weight of 3,179lbs, and 204 mph top speed, the 2008 Porsche GT2 is a supercar in every sense of the word. Heck, even its 189,496 sticker places Porsche's most potent 911 in the land of the F430 and the Gallardo. Where the Ferrari and the Lamborghini can't match up against the GT2 is where it matters most, on the track. Not just any track, either. We're talking about the track by which all great sports cars are judged... the vaunted 'Ring. Porsche claims the new GT2 can lap the legendary 14-mile course in a mere 7:32,
which is 10 seconds better than even the 599 GTB
. That ridiculous lap time puts the GT2's average speed at over 110mph, which is just sick. Must be the Titanium exhaust. The 2008 Porsche GT2 is scheduled to appear in Frankfurt in September, and the newest 997 will hit European streets in November.
Wow that's freekin fast.
I'm with Ben, not feeling the love with the rear gills... can you say Ruf? (pronounced Roof)
it's not so much the gills but just the way the bottom part of the rear end flares out like a dress or kinda like the way a manatee is shaped. i'm sure it's all great in the functional sense, but aesthetically, i wish it would taper in and collect a bit more like the 997 GT3, or any other 911 for that matter.
front end is spot on, wing is cool though i don't like the lower level with the air intakes jutting out... again function great.. but i wish they could've tightened it up and made it less noticeable.
The 997GT2's 'ring time is incredible!!! I believe it is something like 23 seconds faster than the F430. Granted, 'ring times are difficult to compare when they are set on different days due to varying conditions. However, the 997GT2's times are literally light years ahead of any current production car.
These times and the performance figures for the new GT2 which will shortly be coming from the auto press will put the GT2 and Porsche at the pinnacle of the sports car world. Not bad for a 911, huh?
Porsche - There is no Substitute!!!
I think I'd rather have a GT2.....CGT is VERY hot, but the performance of the GT2 will be better than a CGT and it'll be cheaper to maintain....they wont have to send a mechanic from Germany to fix a problem....I was at a dealer looking for my 911 and walked through the service department on a saturday morning....when low and behold there was a CGT there with the engine in pieces! I asked what was going on with that? The salesman said, well the guy was driving it and it started missing, pulled it into the dealer and no one knows how to work on a CGT...so Porsche flys in a mechanic from Germany. The mechanic starts pulling things, bends over and his small cell phone falls out of his shirt pocket and into the engine bay, but he cant find it....they think its in a cylinder so they are CAREFULLY removing things until they find the phone....lol...wow...
don't care to split hairs over perf... both go like stink and i couldn't care less if the cgt requires special attn... it should because it is very special
-cgt looks the part in and out whereas the GT2 looks no better than any other souped up 911
-CGT sounds the part and the GT2 will NEVER sound nearly as exotic as the CGT
-CGT v10 is so low interia, insane F1 style and again the GT2 WILL NOT ever rev like this (lightweight flywheel pls)
CGT is clearly the #1 stud in the stud garden - not sure why we're even having a debate here
gt2 is king of the 911 kingdom, but the 911 kingdom isn't exotic.
so again my point being frosted flakes for dinner is more justifiable for a cgt than the top dog 911. at least for me it is , but then no car is worth frosted flakes for dinner in my world
you think they would call the cell and trace the ring..... maybe theyre not that smart... isnt a clutch job on a cgt like $30k... as a DD gt2 the way to go in my book, for weekends cgt.... there I go daydreaming again
Just as the droolfest continues, to put in an elephant into the room, what do you folks think of the Audi RS8? It's "only" 118k and somehow I am thinking it wouldnt cost a small fortune to maintain.
Thats where we differ on opinion...I like to DRIVE THE HELL out of my cars...a CGT is not a car that can be done with....a front bumper $40k...what if after the 3 or 4 year warranty, you need repairs...ship it to Germany? Stateside there are not too many places that will be qualified to work on a CGT...lets say in 5 years I need an engine rebuild...again...Germany? Nope....not for me...I'd rather have a car I can drive and not worry about what will happen when it need servicing...and like all cars, it needs servicing. So a stock 997 GT2 will be faster, more reliable, lower cost to own...and I can get my servicing done at ANT Porsche dealer...But if you wanna CGT go right ahead...As you would say...its a siq car....
being faster for what? so if you rolled up in your gt2 next to a cgt, r u seriously thinking i'm gonna take this guy to school? pls. it's splittin hairs. both are insanely fast and the CGT is many magnitudes more special. that's all i'm saying. it's worth the extra dollrs because u know where all those extra dollars are headed.
i'm not making it an either/or proposition. have both if u want. i fully realize that the cgt will require more special care, but it doesn't matter to me. the gt2 will never ever excite me teh way a cgt does and that's where it hits a ceiling whereas in the cgt, the sky is the limit, repair bills included, but again, who cares. u get a cgt because it IS the undeniable pinnacle of porsche production car engineering and u don't get a gt2 because it's more reliable than the cgt.
it's really saying i like oranges but you offering me an apple because it's easier to eat since u don't have to peel the skin off of it to get to the juice.
Yup, Audi will try to eat into Porsche's casual buyer.
I would love to drive one and see if it gives me the road feel the 911 does. And if I had F-U money I would buy one anyway.
My thought is that dealers will be selling this car way over MSRP because they're only making 400 this year... and I would NEVER pay over MSRP for any car, sorry.
My point is I like my cars for how they drive, not for pulling up next to people and saying..hey I dropped 400k on a car! So I can care less about curb appeal. So if a 200k GT2 is as good as a driver as the 400k CGT, and I get all the performance of a CGT (maybe more) and a GT2 is half the price, I'll take the GT2...I dont wanna deal with 30k clutch jobs, and worrying about driving it too much as my 15k mile service is probably WAY more than a GT2, and if it breaks down, who can fix it? I guess I think too realistically about cars that I wanna own and in the ownership or a car I think of upkeep, maintainence, driveability, reliability, and plan for the vent of breakdowns and repairs....so while I LOVE the CGT, and a friend owns 2 of them...I would rather have a GT2, in fact, I'd rather have a GT3 over the GT2 for my personal needs....A GT3 will give me more performance than I will EVER need...They are ALL amazing cars!
OK my 2 cents:
If you can afford to buy the car...you should be able to afford to maintain it then. If you can't, then you are kidding yourself and should not buy it or you will lose it when it does need repairs/service.
So in conclusion: If I can only afford the GT2 I am not going to look at a CGT. If I can afford to buy a CGT, then I will probably not look at the GT2, unless I can afford both (CGT for street and GT2 for track).
Afford = purchase and maintain
I cannot afford either one so I can only dream about owning either of them at this moment, and to make any statements of which one I would own is not necessary.
