Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.
I've been wanting to ask this question for some time, and I am curious to see if anyone else has this problem, so here it goes. Nothing I plug in to my lighter socket (except the lighter) wants to stay put. It doesn't matter whether it is a radar detector, my g-tech, or my ipod charger...nothing will stay "seated" all the way in, and even if I can manage to maintain a connection, any bump of any substance at all will cause the device to come out enough to break the connection. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on how to remedy? thanks!
Scott, there is a German car adapter you can get from a cell phone company or Radio Shack. It is a thin spacer to go around your accessory plug to take up the extra space around the plug. German cars have a 22 mm socket, all others are 21 mm. I had one on my Mercedes and it worked perfectly.
Fred, thanks so much. I suspected it was something like that, as I've had this problem with my other two boxsters as well. I'm off to radio shack today! Thanks again buddy.
Around 2002 Porsche changed the socket so that it was a tighter fit. You could replace your 1999 socket with the newer style if you do not like spacer.
Tool pants, yeah, I could do that, but that would require hiring an engineering phd to remove the lighter socket from the ac surround (tried that once...not fun, and I was ultimately unsuccessful).
Yeah my '00 car has this same problem, the socket is too large for a std car charger plug. When I ordered my car battery maintainer from Sunset, Jeff made sure I got the older version one and it fits good. I may go for that spacer as well.
Thanks,
Hmmm interesting. I have an '02, and can confirm that my accessories all fit nice and snug so my car must have shipped with the newer smaller one.
This is an interesting thread, I was not aware that there is any difference between EU/US lighter sockets.
Ok there is another solution, you remove the socket and bend the holding prongs down just a bit. I found this out by changing the switch panel to a carbon one and when i reinstalled the ligher socket it wouldnt hold a thing, I bent the prongs in a bit and it works...Not sure if this is your issue but sounds like it
Does anyone have a link to such a device? I tried searching using several different key words and came up with nothing. Haven't had a chance to run by a Radio Shack yet. I have the same problem with my '00 when I try to use a battery charger for my camera.
