Leading evidence: 'Use following figures' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace caused by the new wheel' (1 discussions). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
Still checking out wheels, and stumbled on these on ebay. I called the place, and asked how they can be sold so inexpensively. They answered that they set their own prices...It appears as though they do a large volume of business, and that might help explain the lower prices.
Anyhow, these seem perfect for my snow wheels setup. Not the first choice in design that I'd get, but for the purpose and price, it's fantastic. Not sure if I want to pull the trigger on these....any advice appreciated. If I do get these, and my current rears have 45mm offset, any advice on what size spacers to get to make the car appear stock in the wells?

Thanks,

I have a replica narrow body set I've powdercoated gloss black. Paid $589 picked them up locally no shipping.
They balance true, and are sturdy enough for my daily pothole drag.
Great fellas....thanks. So, the math works that easy Tim? I was thinking that the 65mm would be too big since it's biger than 45mm stock setup. I guess I'm not certain as to what is measured to constitute offset.
I'm going narrow body size b/c these are for snows....they should cut thru a little easier, no? Not easy to find snows for an 11" as well. I want to put Blizzaks on.....the rears will be 265/35...not sure what I should do on the front...225/40??
J
Well, the math is that easy ONLY IF the two wheels you are comparing are the same width. It gets a little more complicated if you are comparing wheels of different widths.
The attachments below show 1) how
offset
is measured (diagram on the left) 2) current and new wheel widths and offsets and 3) changes caused by the new wheel from the current wheel.
The first example compares a 10" wide wheel with an 11" wide wheel, both of them having 65mm offset. The 11" wheel will extend 13mm farther out and also reduce inner clearence by 13mm. Because the offset didn't change, half of the 1" (or 26mm ) for the wider wheel is added to each side (inside and outside) of the wheel.
The second example compares a 10" wide wheel with a 65mm offset and an 11" wide wheel with a 52mm offset. The inner clearence remains the same but the eouside of the wheel is extended by 26mm, compared to the 10" wheel. Tha is because the offset has moved bact toward the center of the wheel, thereby "pushing" the wheel father out on the car. Effectively, that has the impact of the additional 1" in the wheel width being added to the outside of the wheel.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Wow TIM, thanks so much. You have all the good stuff. I played with that calculator, but it indicates that I will need to RETRACT BY 33mm????
I used the following figures:
old wheel 11/45
new wheel 10/65
that make sense, and how would I retract? do I really need to do that, or is that wheel out?
thanks,
Jon
Jon, You are looking at it the wrong way. The new 10" wide wheel WILL retract by 33mm because 1) it is 1" narrower than your 11" wheel and 2) the offset is greater. That combination will make the wheel move farther into the fender well in order to be able to attach to the hub.
To get back to having the outside of the 10" wheel in the same location as the outside of the 11" wheel you would have to add a 33mm spacer, which is too thick of a spacer to consider, IMO. You could add a 17mm spacer and cut the distance in half.
Here is a diagram that may help. Note the difference in the spacing between the wheel and the fender for each of the two examples shown. Please excuse the poor representation for the "fenders." The two wheel examples are NOT to relative scale, they are just meat to illsutrate the difference between the different wheel widths and different offsets.
Let me know if you have any questions.
TIM....I TOTALLY GET IT NOW!!! Can't thank you enough for taking the time to explain this. Hopefully this thread will educate others as well. I've avoided dealing with offset issue the same way I avoided trig. in school.
Makes sense now. I'm looking at another set of wheels with 47mm offset in the rear, and I'm going to need a 15 mm spacer on each side.....right???
Here's the wheel....the newer version of the twists....can't remember what they are called....another nice price.

Thanks for the clarification.
Jon
Jon, you are welcome. I'm glad that helped out. See, this is easier than trig!
Yes, if you add 15mm spacers to the rear wheels, it will get them in the same position as your current wheels.
