Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at 2001 996 which dealer listing says has "motor sound" option. I know on the 993 there was such which I believe include modified mufflers. Would this be the PSE setup on a 2001?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have all the three digit option codes from the vehicle, but the only two I can't translate are 135 and 236. Anyone know what the option code would be for PSE?

POST 4Original post

Yes, "motor sound" was an option on the 996. Porsche clipped baseball cards to the brake calipers on these cars so that they made a "motor" sound against the wheels as they turned. The stock 996 exhaust is so quiet that you can actually hear this option quite well.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've used the RENNTECH decoder before... only problem is that it wants a code to translate and I want the reverse lookup...give it a description and have it provide the code... Thanks.

POST 7Original post

In that case, download the 996 parts catalog and search it: https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp

POST 8Original post

As far as I know there never was an option for "motor sound" on the 996 but sport exhaust would be my guess.

POST 9Original post

Well, the other alternatives could be i) the motor delete option (000), or the motor enhancement option (VR00m) where you sit in the driver's seat while stationary making vroom! noises.

POST 10Original post

Wayne - I first thought that Phil was asking this question about a "motor sound" option. I figured that he had FINALLY figured out that if he inserted the key into the ignition and turned it to the right, the "motor sound" option would turn on!

POST 11Original post

yeah, I know, I did wonder also. I've not seen Phil around recently. I'll have to hassle him to see what's up.
