One run on Saturday we ran together the entire session, but on Sunday I had learned to drive my car properly and was quite a bit faster.

I highly recommend buying a bra just for tracking and/or a clear bra.

It was my first DE (thus I was in the green run group) and I enjoyed watching your video since it was in one of the more advanced run groups.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys. Here's the video I threw together from pieces of our DE this last weekend at TWS.
It was my first track event in the turbo. Until I had a little guidance on how to drive it compared to my C2, I was a little lost and even kind of nervous. I felt like a 'no talent *** clown' the first few times out in it. At one point, I was going so much faster than normal, I got scared and let off (a huge no-no) and well, you'll see.
After being humbled a little, I got help from another 996 TT owner who is an amazing driver, and well, it was night and day. I was having a blast.
By the end of the weekend, I was much faster in my turbo, but it took some re-learning and getting confidence in the AWD. I became about 5 seconds faster around the track in my TT than I was in the C2.
Here's the video. I made fun of myself a lot in it.
TWS Video
hehe. Thanks for the tips.
I was early apexing alot because it was my first time in the TT and was going so much faster that I thought I'd have to turn in sooner.
It's just gonna take time and more practice.
I missed my old car at first, but this car is so much fun once you learn to trust the car and not fear the power.
Scott, you've got to leave the four-wheeling to Bruce in his Cayenne turbo. He's got the adjustable ride height for it.
I can't believe you don't wear gloves. Don't you get sweaty palms?
haha. I should get some advice from Bruce then too.
I do wear gloves usually, but didn't most of this weekend. Maybe if I had worn gloves, I would have been able to stay on the track.
Man you almost gave me a heart attack.
I watched that vid at work, but had a helluva time tracking down this post when I got home. Maybe because I'm running Linux w/Mozilla browser at home
Saweet vid btw, thanks.
After finding the post and vid again when I got home I got to say you did a pretty nice job
That 944 was doing pretty well up untill he broke hard and so did you on one of the last turns. But he graciously let you pass, looks like you had loads of fun.
Was the 944 driver a seasoned driver to that track? It seemed so, but it was nice he let you pass in the end.
Again, nice vid... More entertaining then lord of the rings (compressed into 4-5 minutes
)
The 944 driver is a good driver. It took him a while to let me by because he thought he was about the same speed as me because on Saturday he was. One run on Saturday we ran together the entire session, but on Sunday I had learned to drive my car properly and was quite a bit faster. He told me after that run that he fully expected to see me again after a few turns, but he said he just couldn't get close and that I was notably faster.
That made me happy.
Literally, on Saturday, I thought I had maybe made a mistake in getting rid of my C2, but on Sunday I didn't think that at all!
My lap times have improved tremendously to validate that.
Awesome Scott. I'll be there the weekend of March 6th for the Drivers Edge event.
I just joined the PCA so I hope to meet you and other Lonestar members soon!
Great video Scott!
Boy, I gave a jump on that turn you went off, thank god it was clear, but I'm glad your finally taming the beast... and the "underwear clean? Good." too funny
Nick... come find us at the next PCA event. glad to have you there!
PS. what kind of detailing do you do? I'm totally **** about my car and won't let anyone touch it. Is your place a place I can trust?
Seriously, I'd like to talk to you about that. I'll call you. (I just don't have the time anymore)
Carlos, you think you jumped! haha
Yeah, TWS is a great track because there are very few places that have fences or walls. The places that do, I definitely don't push it like I do on the rest of the track. The key to the area where I went off was to just let yourself go off. Don't fight it and try and get back on, etc. People have really messed up their cars doing that.
boq, my brakes were just fine. ZERO issues or fade. LOTS of brake dust.
Will you be at the LSR GTG on the 8th? I'm going to try and attend that. Like you, I'm just too damn busy lately.
It's my own detailing company. I'm mobile as long as the person has a garage and a water source. Otherwise you would have to come to the place I use to detail (290 and Antoine) cars. I typically do higher end cars and have as many references that you may need. Yes, please call me.
I won't be there on the 8th.
I will call you though. I've been looking for a good mobile detailer. I just never trust anyone to understand the issues with clear coats, etc.
Nice video. I really need to re-join Pca. I miss it very much. I just don't have alot of time anymore. When I get the turbo back out(it likes the car cover for the winter months) I certainly plan on getting out with it more. I would love to test it against some much newer porsche design's.....i.e. a 996tt. I am pushing easily 400hp and have a pretty stout suspension. I need tries though...any suggestion's???? I am running a 17inch wheel and in past DE's I used my spare 16 in set. I don't like taking the risk of scuffing my street rim's. Anyways nice vid and maybe I will run into you guy's soon. I sold my brother in law one of my old porsche's and he has been biten by the bug....he went and ordered a 911 from cal. lol. My father also own's a few P-car's and I think all of us would like to come out and see what we can do.
John,
You ought to come out to MSR in Cresson. It's a great track and at most an hour away from Dallas. You don't even have to be a member of the PCA. The Drivers Edge and NASA regularly hold events there and they don't require membership. At the last Drivers Edge event there were three red 951's out there. The PCA is having a DE out there this weekend. I'll be out there.
George
hmmmm.....I don't know if I could make it this weekend(not enough notice) But, that sounds like alot of fun. Like I said I would really like to get back into autocross I miss it alot. How does this event work? Is it timeslip battle with classes...or just a free for all run what ya brung kinda thing??
John, you have been away for a while. MSR is a 1.7 mile road course and it's a Drivers Education (DE), not an autocross. There's no racing involved. Here is the tracks website:
http://www.motorsportranch.com
If you have some time this weekend, just stop by and you will see what it's all about.
George
Holy crap brain fart big time. I didn't put MSR and motorsport together for some reason.....lmao I raced their last year. Great track! I havent taken the turbo out there even though I really want too. I wonder what kinds of speeds I could get. I could see myself going through a set of brake pads.lol.
I will talk with my father and brother in law and see if they might be up for it. We have plans to go shoot(skeet) this sunday so I don't know if they will want to cancel. If they don't I was planning on running at least once out there this year so I am sure I will be running into you. Your avator says plano....do you drive that black 993?? I might have seen you around and just not known it was you. A buddy of mine loves his 97 4s......it's quite beauitiful. White with crome turbo twists....maybe you have seen him. Anyways hopefully I will see you out their this weekend. If we show look for a white 928s4 and a brown shade(don't know the exact color) 911. If we don't make it hopefully we can gtg at the next one.
sincerely,
Scott - great video and I hope your car didn't get scuffed up in the weeds. I was at that same DE. I had the red 996 with all the tape on the front (and suffered through all the wise cracks about owning stock in 3M or Home Depot...). It was my first DE (thus I was in the green run group) and I enjoyed watching your video since it was in one of the more advanced run groups. Which group were you in?
For those of you who are sitting on the fence and thinking of tracking your car, run and don't walk to the next PCA-sponsored DE you can find!!! This was was about as much fun as I've ever had in a car! This DE was extremely well organized and the PCA organizers that sponsored it were professional and all around class acts. Highly recommended!
I think you need some more tape on that car longhorn
. Scott runs in the yellow group with me, he'll probably be up in the white group with RJ soon.
DEs are great, you can really learn a lot about the capabilities of your 996, they are very addicting.
Wow.... that's a lot of tape. I highly recommend buying a bra just for tracking and/or a clear bra.
Glad you enjoyed it. You're hooked now!
The video was in yellow, but I should be in white as of the next DE.
Find me next time. I'm number 342 in a seal grey turbo.
Really glad to hear you enjoyed it. Don't know if they announced it at the drive'rs mtgs, but you're in for a treat - PCA is going to run one or two events on the 2.9 backwards this year. Starting in June, I think.
Methinks I spied a HWFMR cap in that video!
