Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Any way you can repair the wheel for a lot less for minor schratches from usage than to go out and purchase another set of rims.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

to follow up with last week's discussion, 18's vs. 19's...
i love the look of 19s on a 996 but unfortunately, i don't DE/race enough to justify a set of 18s and 19s.
is it totally crazy to use 19s? if not, i may swap my 18's for 19s. ya, for street it would hold up but would it hold up at the track. i know i would be compromising weight for looks but is cornering better, same, worse? i would imagine going from would be like going from 17s to 18s
there aren't as many tire choices for 19s but i've seen street applications by goodyear gsd3, yoko avs, conti sc2s and dunlop sp 9000s. i will be doing DEs but no serious racing..... yet... (using my sinster dr.evil laugh)

Carlos,
I run with 18's but I have seen one individual run with 19's on an autocross event. With thin sidewalls, I would presume you couldn't play with the tire pressures as much as the 18's. Plus, the 19 inch rims may be more susceptable to damage (if you go fast enough around the corner that the sidewall on tires flex inward). I would agree that the 19 inch rims make the car look great!
Karlooz,
Unfortunately its not quite the same as going from 17 to 18 in terms of improved handling. With current technology you're reaching a point of diminishing returns. You'll see very few REAL racing cars running larger than 18" rims. The F1 teams still make due with <15" rims!! I think the current major concerns are rim damage and tire costs. Also, most 19s are still fairly heavy aren't they? They do look good though, don't they!

I agree with KJinDC there will not be any improvement in handling with 19". I like the way your rims look, but there will be a risk of damage to those nice wheels. I think that if you only autocross and only do 1 or 2 DE's your wheels should be fine though. Any way you can repair the wheel for a lot less for minor schratches from usage than to go out and purchase another set of rims. Go ahead and use them IMO.
19" competition tires are all but impossible to come by, that being said.
If form follows function and 18's function better in a performance enviornment,
What is the point of 19's
just to look cool? Is there any other upside to having 19's/
so what was the rationale of going to 18's from 17's? if form follows function then why go to heavier 18's. better handling, yes? why wouldn't 19's perform better, handling wise? if they do in fact handle better than i would expect 19" competition tires to be just around the corner.
why do you have a porsche? cause it looks cool! why bother with a porsche if only you cared about performance
Karlooz,
There most likely will be competition tires in the 19" sizes in a few years. Do you really want to wait that long? The other concern is law of diminishing returns. Eventually a rim can be too tall and the tire wrapped around it too thin.
The balance you chose to strike between aesthetics and performance is going to be subjective. Do what you like. 19s do look damn good! But with current tire technology, most tests have shown 19" wheel/tire packages lose out performance wise to comparable 18" set-ups.
If you can, go to a track event and talk w/some of the drivers in the advanced run groups.
