The service writer told me they only warranty batteries if you drive the car frequently or use a trickle charger.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My battery went dead. so i took the car to Porsche. The service guy called me today & he said that i have a bad battery and he is going to charge it overnight, i told him the battery does not keep the charge, i drove the car for 20 miles and turn it off & back on & it's dead. He says that Porsche does not replace batteries if you put anything below 7500 /year. He says since most people have this car as their 2nd car, that is the policy. Is this true? please advise. post any experience you have had. I just bought the car 7 months ago & this is the treatment i am getting from Porsch.
I have gone through 2 batteries, neither was covered under warranty. I was not told about the 7,500 mile deal, I was just told that at 1K miles per year, they would not cover it.
I purchased the Porsche trickle charger and have not had a problem since...

Prior to buying a Porker, I had owned a couple of MBs and then a C328CiSE. All three of them suffered from failed batteries within their first 12 months of ownership. Either leave the car unlocked (so the only battery drain is the flashing diode on the radio) or trickle charge them every month!
I also have a 1996 Suzuki Bandit motorcycle...still working on its original battery....regularly trickle charged at about 1-2 amps for 12 hours.
I had 2 batteries replaced and both times it was a second car. Boardwalk Porsche told me they would only replace it once. The second time it died I went to Park Place Porsche in Dallas and they replaced it no problem.
1) they decided to replace battery at no charge even though it's not the 7500 miles/ yr.
2) the radio know was peeling, they could not find the **** only, so they are replacing the whole unit. wow
3) everything under warranty
4) rental car they provided me is paid for through the porsche warranty,
Oh by the way, they gave me a GT3 for rental.
yeah right...
If you rarely drive the Porsche, get a battery MAINTAINER, not a trickle charger and have it hard wired into the vehicle. Just connect the maintainer to the garage electric socket and no more dead battery problems. You can buy a maintainer at most auto parts stores, install it yourself and not have to worry again.
Driving a car with a dead battery 20 miles won't do anything to charge it.
It takes several hours to recharge a dead battery.
FWIW, I have gone through at least 4 batteries in my 928 over the last 10 years. Now I don't lock it when it is in a secure location, and I use the Porsche battery maintainer which I bought (for both cars).
The 996 gets plenty of use when it is on the road (put away for the winter) and does not have a battery consumption problem.
What happens is that your battery is "deep cycling" during long periods of non use. A very deep cycle (battery is dead) is said to destroy 1/4 of the battery's remaining life. So it is easy to see that six such events make your battery undependable.
My 2001 battery went bad and was replaced under warranty. The service writer told me they only warranty batteries if you drive the car frequently or use a trickle charger.
