Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went to Porsche dealer & they told me that i should buy the ext warranty asap since if i wait longer, it will cost more to buy down the road. Since my car only has 15k miles and it's an 01, i went ahead & bought it and the warranty started as of then and expires in 2008 (5yrs or 85000 miles), i paid 2850.00 american dollars for it. I read the other postings and you guys say that you can buy that anytime, Not according to my dealer (newport autocenter) they aid if you wait longer, then it could be high as 5000.00. If it's not true, i don't know why they rushed me into this since i could have just driven and who knows sell the car in 2 yrs and buy something else, but since they rush rush me i bought it.

POST 2Original post

The big question to ask is whether or not it is "Certified Pre-Owned". If it is, then it comes with the extended warranty (6 yr/100K from original deliver date). Sounds to me like they were to cheap to do the certification and are defraying the cost to you to get. They probably charged you, then did the certification. Remember, the key to ask is what it "certified" when you said "i'll take it"-----legally of course

POST 3Original post

yellowbmr, i can not claim to be an expert on warranties but I did try to educate myself a bit before the recent purchase of a 2000 C2. You've essentially got a year (give or take a few months) on the factory warranty left, so the extended warranty has bought you 4 additional years (or the 85K miles whichever comes first). Whether you got a good deal depends on what's covered, what' s not, and the deductible you choose. In my case I got a top of the line (total bumper-to-bumper, roadside towing) 4yr/60K warranty at about the same price you obtained. And yes it will cost you more $ the closer to the end of the factory warranty you wait but $5K seems like an exaggeration.

Those crafty folks in the finance office...hi-pressure sales Tho the horse has left the barn, my question is why his vehicle was not a Porsche "Certified Pre-Owned"

POST 5Original post

your policy is with apco? i bought the same one thru newport 1-mo. before my factory warranty exp. and i paid the same.

POST 6Original post

Porsche charges $1,595 for their extended warranty and it is bumper to bumper for an additional 2 years and a total of 100,000 miles.

POST 7Original post

BobW, is that available only at the time of purchase, or afterwards as well?

POST 8Original post

The Porsche certified warranty is not a bumper to bumper -- it covers a lot but it is not the same as the 4 year 50K new car warranty. It is a 2 year 100k extended warranty. Porsche dealers must go through a series of checks and services to have the car meet the program, and then pay Porsche about $1500.00 to add it to the program. I was told that this is only available for porsche dealers selling used autos -- you can not buy this coverage on your current auto.
