Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

We test fit several things and this sounds great and with tips is costing me $610.

Well I am here to tell you that the Bypass pipes are really not a daily use item.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I am here to tell you that the Bypass pipes are really not a daily use item.
I am having a custom exhaust made for my 99 C2. It was not complete today and I decided to just take the car home without the mufflers (i.e. Bypass pipe).
I consider myself a sound nut. I love the cool sound of a free flow exhaust on a car.
But this was excessive. Don't get me wrong it sounded great but it was too much. I had a police officer give me a nasty look and I didn't even "get on it". I am sure that if I had pushed it he would have pulled me over.
The car had plenty of power and zoomed up thru the RPMs. It would be PERFECT for the track.
I would have to say they are unusable anywhere where you get the sound reflected (i.e. downtown etc.)
Just my .02
I am a youngish punk as well and it was to much for me. I could feel the rumble thru my chest...................
Fun but not practicle.......for the street that is
SPR, If you bypass the cats, what do you do with the O2 sensors. There is one before the cat and one after and it's my understanding that if they don't receive different readings they will assume the cats have failed and CEL. Have you found a solution for this?
Jaun, many Porsche race cars run with straight exhaust.
Tim, what sort of custom exhaust are you having done. BTW, if you just left the mufflers off so the exhaust was leaving the cats directed at the side of the car, the noise is much worse than if you put the bypass pipes on. I drove my race car a short distance without the by-pass pipes and it's serious obnoxious. Half the noise come from the exhaust rattling the side of the car.
Jim:
They put a short pip on each side to direct the exhaust out the back as it should. Ugly as heck solution but it is temporary
We are putting Aero Turbines on each side. The pipe work is a work of art. Here is some more info on the muffler itself
AERO TURBINE
We test fit several things and this sounds great and with tips is costing me $610. It is a nice medium between bypass pipes and a muffler (I think).
JPDMD:
Naw...you have a cab. And if it is Blue no way for sure
when you striaght pipe the cats you replace the pipes with tubes bent the same without cats. Where the o2 sensors go you weld in bungs to accomodate them of course. Geeze I would hardly imagine trying to drive the car with the o2 sensor in the ambient air
Sean,
Obviously building the cat bypass with O2 senors in the easy part. I was of the understanding that the computer would freak if the before and after sensors we not indicating that the cat was functioning properly. I certainly could be wrong. Have you do this?
Jim
Dunno I have done it on other cars however without any problems but then again that is typically with a much longer exhaust system. Would be interesting to know for sure though, as there would be a great benefit, i.e. bang for buck by the mod if successful. Doesn't fvd make the bypass pipes as well as fabspeed? Anyone?
