Does anyone know if I have to replace the entire front headlights to get rid of the orange in the front?

Also, I am assuming that I will need to replace the entire head light unit.

1.Yes...but as mentioned above, someone posted a thread recently about doing it without replacing the whole light.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, I just picked up a 99 c2 996. It has 50k miles and I got it for $27k. Silver with black interior. I want to start modding some cosmetic parts and I was wondering where is a good place to get the all clear headlights and the clear tail lights. I will post up some pics soon!
Yeah, ok...my bad. The clear headlights look pretty cool. I haven't seen the taillights yet...I just envisioned this beautiful 996 with ricer taillights and I freaked out.
I know what you mean, I would freak out too if someone else wants to put ricers lights on a porsche.
What are the price range I am looking at for the tail lights? I see it on ebay for $600 a pair. Is that about right?
Also, I am assuming that I will need to replace the entire head light unit. Is that correct?
vwrado,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase. In regards to your question I would recommend some board sponsors as they have rennlist discounts. I would also try fleabay which is a good source. Most importantly have fun and enjoy it.
Now a welcome to the group
I have a newer model but I think I saw a thread recently on how to remove the turn signal amber without having to replace the whole unit. Good luck and have fun!
Vwrado - Congrats on getting a nice looking P-car. The clears will look great on your car.
I see that my "associates" beat me to the punch about posting pics! Man, this job is getting easier and easier every day. Good job, Fellas!
Some of my question was:
1. The entire front headlights need to be replace if I want to get rid of the orange right?
2. Will boxster headlight fit my model? 99 996
3. Which vendor have good prices on headlight and taillight?
4. Can I manually put the "wing" up and down?
and there is more where that came from
Sorry, I'm still new to porsches.
1.Yes...but as mentioned above, someone posted a thread recently about doing it without replacing the whole light. Do a search, it's just past few days.
2.I don't think the boxster lights will fit your 996, but I'm not 100% sure though.
4.The rear spoiler button is down on your left footwell, by the fusebox.
Using that manually is posing, though..
Red calipers could be just painted...you gotta take a close look, maybe look for part numbers?
I got a great idea for your 966....you got it cheap....so how about an 02 front conversion!!?!?? It will make your P look double the price you paid!!
Ofcourse you can make it even nicer (it looks great already) with clear sidemarkers, 3 spoke steering wheel and the newer version tail lights.
I was researching and apparently, the removal of the orange is for the lights that are already clear but have an orange cap inside. By removing the orange cap, you get completely clear lights. Back to my journey to find my headlights....
Nicolaasdb, I would love to do the conversion but probably not anytime soon. I just want to do a few minor upgrades for the time being.
I reacted the same way you did...the first couple of weeks.....but sooner than later the mod bug will get you and you will spend a LOT of money on your P!!! Believe me...I did it!! And I didn't understand people modding their P's so much I honestly thought they were crazy...
Moding or not you will love your P.....driving it makes living and working more bearable!!
Am I the only one that thinks the newer style headlights 02-04 look cheesy, and the front end styling is too sharp for the rest of the car. I really think the early front end flows way better, although I like 993's and 997's a lot more.

I used to think that at one point during the buying stage.
But I'm loving it more and more everyday now looking at them.
They are a unique bunch...we look different on the road.
Just like the red reflector strip on a C4S......
I like the 997's, 993's as well...but personally, not the 99-01 996's headlights.
Could that be an E36 M3/4-door in the background of your new 996 P-car?? If it is--that's sweet. Maybe I need to get a black '99 996 to complement my black E36 M3/4-door??!!
Welcome aboard; lots of good info on this forum; great bunch of guys......watch out for these modder guys...they got to me before I learned that you don't have to mod your car to be a member of this forum".
Cheesy??? Did you say CHEESY????? Them's fightin' words!
I guess that is the first time I have ever heard a P-car part referred to as "cheesy." I wasn't sure about the headlights at first but I quickly grew to like them quite a bit. DIfferent view points, different opinions. It's all good!
Congrats! The car does appear to be lower than stock (a good thing!). Do you know what springs/struts you have?
I got my clear headlights with triangles from Suncoast Porsche for about $1200 for the pair.
Also, you can get silver painted bumperette's from bumperplugs.com that really enhance the look. I went with wheel spacers too. It's a subtle but welcome improvement - imho!
What size spacers are you using? Are you using spacers for the front and back?
To answer your question about my suspension, yes it is lowered on Bilstein coilovers.
I have H&R spacers 7mm front and 15mm rear. I believe this is what the 40th anniversary 911 came with stock. You need to buy the longer lug bolts too. This is a pretty inexpensive mod with nice results.
If your coilovers are PSS9s, you'll love them. I love how my car handles with them set on 9 all the way around. You can always back them off for comfort if you need to go on a long drive.
