However, my point was the manual does NOT seem to recommend mounting rearward facing seats in the rear seats, which is what this thread is about.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Title says it all. I couldn't find a pic anywhere on Rennlist. I've read that the front seats need to be pushed all the way to the front, leaving little room for the front passenger. A pic is worth a thousand words. BTW, will ( this ) baby seat work in the "rear facing" + "back seat installed" mode? The wife is due in July with our first

POST 2Original post

Can't comment on the baby seat but I am sure others will. Just wanted to say CONGRATS on the upcoming birth of your first child

POST 3Original post

It is not recommended to put a rear facing baby seat in the back. Some do it but I went to see a professional installer and there was no way to put one that was safe enough for me to be comfortable. I know from this forum that others have done it (search "rear facing baby seat") but I personally waiting for my 7 month old to get to one year so I can install a front facing seat in the back. You would consider the airbag deactivation seat (as per your link) that goes in the front seat but your wife will have to ride in the back!

POST 4Original post

Discoganya Congrats Im very interested as well in this topic Have my first child coming late May I just figured I would drive the wife jeep for the first year

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you Dell and Dominic ML: This is really what I wanted to confirm. Does the Porsche seat fit at the back, facing the rear? If so, is it safe? And how much room does it allow for the front passenger (aka wife)? A pic is worth a thousand words. And I've searched all of Rennlist, there is no pic of a rear facing infant seat. I want my kid to start with P-cars early, so can't wait 7 months !

POST 6Original post

Congratulations! After he/she arrives you might begin to wonder if you really should be spending your money on your car instead of college. Be strong! There is always community college and scholarships. lol I have yet to take my 4 year old or 1 year old in my cab. 1) too much hassle moving the seats between cars 2) just an over abundance of caution.

POST 7Original post

I have 2 pictures for you !!! Same car so it works !!! The seat belt is not installed correctly as it was just for the picture it shoud go through the plastic part with the blue arrow... Regards from France.

POST 8Original post

Wouldn't recommend ever putting a baby in the front seat of any car, let alone your Porsche - even with the air bag deactivated. Front facing rear car seats should be used only when babies are 1 year AND 20 pounds or more.

POST 9Original post

When I installed the seat shown on the picture it was to see how easy (or uneasy) it was to do it. To be fully honest, if you put one of these in your car the passenger will not have much space left but it fits and in the safest way otherwise I would have never done it. My 3 years old daughter is now in a proper seat (not a real complete baby seat but the next level : sorry I do not know the word in English) and my youngest one is installed in a real seat facing the road at the back. Have a good day at work, mine is finished :-)

POST 10Original post

An infant rear facing will fit in the back without a problem. I used a Graco without the base and you can remove the seat pad for more room. You can fit an adult in the front seat, it's tight, but we've driven 150 miles like this with no problem. I too would not recommend puttng a rear facing car seat in the front seat, even with the airbag turned off. Now my boy is in a rear facing convertable seat, a tighter fit in the back, but works. Sorry no pics for now. i can be done and in my opinion is safe in the backseat. Andy

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Andy, are you in the South Bay? Can I come by to check out the seat configuration sometime?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great! Thanks Nico. When shopping for the 911, back seats were important to us for the (future) kid(s?). I'm glad to see that a baby can ride in the car from day one. One thing that is still unclear: Can I fit the "Porsche Baby Safe" car seat in the back, in the rear-facing mode?

POST 13Original post

how do you secure the rear-facing carseat in the back without base?

POST 14Original post

discoganya: Yes, I'm in Campbell. You are welcome to take a look but I will be out of town until next week Wed. Death in the family and will be at the funeral. pl: the seats are designed to anchor in a car, sub-optimally, with out a base or LATCH system. The carseat it's self is molded to allow a seatbelt to pass through it and secure it in the seat. This great for travel, airplanes, taxi's, rental cars etc. and works well in a tight space like a porsche. The base on a carseat is really there for the convienence of being able to clip in and out with out haveing to thread the seatbelt each time. Andy

POST 16Original post

Yes, congrats to all. Let me know in two-three years and I can give you some tips on the toddler seats. and where to store the windex for the windows they cant stop touching!!!!!!

POST 17Original post

I agree Phil. Actually thought it was 22 pounds.

POST 18Original post

Problem with any rear-facing baby seat is it requires so much room, the front seat has to be pushed all the way forward. Great for taking just the baby, but not great if the wife wants to come too! The baby seat never entered my P-car. Now, my daughter is old enough for a booster seat (that's what we call them Nico), which fits, kinda. My policy is kids stay home, or go in mommy's Honda!

POST 19Original post

my wife wants me to put a baby seat (rear facing) in my P....just in case of an emergency. I told her that it is impossible...now I see someone in France put the seat in...but is there enough space left for the front seat passenger??

POST 20Original post

Okay, we had no problems with a graco infant seat in the rear of my 996 (sorry no pics, as we're now into bigger seats) Here's a link to the seat: http://www.babyuniverse.com/pro/baby...ntCarSeat.html No, the seat is not all the way forward. It's forward a little, but even when there's a passenger in there the view was not impeded, nor was it uncomfortable for my 5'2" wife. The seat will fit fine in the back and your passenger will have plenty of space unless they're 6' tall. We also bought the 996 for the rear seats and everything has worked out well. when they're ready to move up to the front facing seats look for the Recaro Young Sport. We have them and have had a good experience.

POST 21Original post

Hi, Yes for an emergency case or with a short person in front More seriously it can be done, not for 200 miles but it is possible. Bye PS : @ AndyK : thanks for the word missing...

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool, so the Graco Theresa SnugRide Infant Car Seat was used in the rear facing mode? Thanks We too passed on the Boxster / Cayman for the rear seats. It looks like it might work out well. I'm sure the baby is going to ride in the other car most of the time, but the P would be great for emergencies and fun weekend family runs.

POST 23Original post

I don't have that exact model, but I do have an older Graco snug ride that came as part of the travel system. We have this one... http://cgi.ebay.com/GRACO-PRINCETON-...QQcmdZViewItem This seat was good up to 20lbs/1year and all was well. As another poster said, it fits fine if you use it without the base - you just secure it using the seatbelt - it was really easy to get my son in and out (with him in the seat) of the back without an issues. In fact, to be honest, I kinda miss it, as it's a tighter fit for you once you start putting them in and out of the front facing seat. Don't worry, you'll be fine. My son is the coolest guy in daycare when he rides in the Porsche... plus it's just fun to see the looks on people's faces when you walk around to the passenger side and pull out the infant seat.

POST 24Original post

According to the user manual ('03 C2), the rear facing child restraint system is used ONLY in the passenger seat but it did not explain why. Anyone know why Porsche recommends that? That makes me wonder if it's really safe to put the rear-facing infant seat at the back seat. Thanks, - Ahsai

POST 25Original post

First, congratulations! I know you are looking for a rear facing seat, but I just installed a forward facing seat in the back and have a few comments/suggestions: 1. Remove the seat bottom and back, the bottom is only on with velcro, and the back is a 5 min job. - this will add several inches of room for the passenger. I used a towel that matches the interior to "even out" the seat bottom once removed. 2. The passenger will lose quite a bit of room. I used a Britax roundabout (forward facing) and removed the base, it fits very well, but even in the this position, my wife (5'7") is a bit cramped when my daughter is in the seat. 3. All that said, the happiest day with my car thus far has been a ride with the top down and my wife and daughter (for the first time) there to enjoy the ride with me. Good Luck, and Congratulations again.

POST 26Original post

Read it again. You should never put a rear facing seat in the front, as the child will be killed if the air bag activates (front and side). Rear facing in the back is fine - in fact very snug if the passenger seat is moved back to the front of the seat you will find absolutely no movement in the seat. Very safe.

POST 27Original post

Maybe my manual is differnt than yours but ion page 43. it says "Rearward facing child restraint system: - Use only in the passenger seat" I understand the airbag hazard, which is trivial. - Ahsai

POST 28Original post

The info. that you're referring to is the one with the airbag activation. No other seat should be used in the front.

POST 29Original post

Wellardmac, that section clearly lists out two types of child seats: rearward facing and forward facing. Then under rearward facing, 1st bullet says "use only in the passenger seat", and 2nd bullet says "use only Porsche child restraint system with airbag deactivation". So for rearward type car seat, you have to use the Porshce type on the passenger seat with airbag deactivation. If their intention was to allow rearward facing in the rear seat, they could have said you can mount that to the rear but for the front, you need the Porsch type? Also, it does mention that for forward facing, it's desriable to mount in the rear seat so it's not like they forgot about the rear seats. - Ahsai

POST 30Original post

What you've said is absolutely correct. My point is that seats that do not have deactivation should never be used in the front.

POST 31Original post

Thanks and I agree. However, my point was the manual does NOT seem to recommend mounting rearward facing seats in the rear seats, which is what this thread is about. I understand you could mount rearward facing seats in the rear seats securely and everything will probably be OK but I was just thinking if this is against Porsche recommendations. And if so, why Porsche does not recommend it. - Ahsai

POST 32Original post

because the sell seats that fit in the front?

POST 33Original post

Um...I dunno. They sell forward facing seats too but they don't advertise that in the user manual. Also, if they wanted to, they could easily design a rearward facing seat for the rear and still make the passenger seat usable, which is much more desirable. - Ahsai

POST 34Original post

Porsche is renowned for some amazing engineering, but also some boneheaded decisions. Why the do some things and not others is sometimes a mystery.

POST 35Original post

congrats.... i think i am going to be looking for one as well...... just found out there's a little one in the oven...... around 5 days now...... my first...... i don't care if it's a guy or girl.... whoever it's going to be, it's going to love porsche.......

POST 36Original post

Congrats. ...you have no clue what's coming and how much your life will change... enjoy your last few months of ignorant bliss.... followed by very many sleep deprived nights.

POST 37Original post

My contribution to the kids in Pcars thread... when they get a little bigger here are your next 2 steps.. 1st into the Recaro Young Sport (drivers side) and then Britax StarRiser booster or similarly sized as others have found. My complete rear seats are in place even the lower cushion.
