Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also had just purchased new tires so I went back to the tire shop and they inspected the balance and asked me to remove the spacers because it didn't look like I needed them. They were right and it solved the problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does wheel spacers alter the balance of the car? I just had all 4 wheels balanced. At around 110-130 mph, there is still a slight vibration from the steering wheels and the car. Can the spacers throw off the balance?

POST 3Original post

A slight vibration is usually due to a tire imbalance. Spacers do not affect the tire balance at all. I do not think spacers will affect the alignment either.

POST 4Original post

When I bought new wheels I used spacers on the front because it looked like they would rub the calipers. I installed a pair given to me by a shop (they were spares laying around) and I had a fairly good vibration at 50 mph. I also had just purchased new tires so I went back to the tire shop and they inspected the balance and asked me to remove the spacers because it didn't look like I needed them. They were right and it solved the problem. The spacers I tried weren't of the highest quality so it didn't surprise me. If you purchase precision-made spacers it shouldn't be a problem, but nothing is guaranteed.

POST 5Original post

Yes, spacers can cause vibration especially if they are not hub centric (most likely not in the front depending on thickness).

POST 6Original post

I the spacers are not hubcentric, they will contribute to wheel vibration. Properly installed hubcentric spacers should not.

POST 7Original post

There is quite a range of prices for 5mm spacers. The difference in quality would make me nervous.
