This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am having my center console painted body color (seal grey) and having the carbon shifter and handbrake installed (thanks Gert!) The dealer is telling me I need to have my seats removed in order to remove the center console for painting and install of new carbon bits. Smells like BullS**t to me as the FAQ's for handbrake install do not mention seat removal for taking the center console out. Any experience here? Would be great if I could take teh console out myself and send it out for paint. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I had my console apart last night. The seats would not have to come out for complete removal of the center console.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How long would it take a mechanic to remove ?

POST 4Original post

It took me about an hour to get it out, but I was taking my time, and had some trouble finding some screws. A shop wrench should be able to get it out in less time.

POST 5Original post

Hey Scott, if you want, wwe can remove the centre console tonight. it would take us about thirty minutes.

POST 6Original post

I have removed it many times. All you need to do with the seats is to slide them back. We show how to do this on the DVD on 4 different cars. Jeff

POST 8Original post

Carbon, do you have factory sport seats by chance. If you do the backs are easy to paint, along with the console. Leather comes off very easy!

POST 9Original post

We paint consoles all day long. Seats remain in place, console comes out for special treatment. What a joke. Now maybe your dealer is installing carbon fiber seat tracks instead.

POST 10Original post

I had it done as a factory option, but they did a poor job on the edge of the ashtray lid (it's visible in the open position). I hope your guy does a better job. Otherwise, it looks nice.

POST 11Original post

Jeff, what is that dvd and how do I get it? Thanks ACW

POST 12Original post

There are 3 DVDs. One DVD is just B&M shift installs. 2 on Boxsters and 2 on 996s. So there are 4 different console removals. Only takes a few minutes to remove it. http://www.babblers.org/board/main.pl?read=28576
