Members have fitted the GT3 Cup front splitter to a regular non-GT3 bumper before but it's not everyone's taste.

Check ebay - they sometimes part out for like $800 for the entire set with tires - or you can go with 2005 5 spoke Carrera III wheels in 18" form - will need 5mm spacers to fill out the fender profile but well worth it.

As I mentioned earlier, the car was in a front end accident at some point in its life and the bumper cover was replaced with a non-aerokit bumper.

The bumper cover that I have is in good shape, so I'm not real motivated to replace the entire thing.

I had a set powdercoated black on my seal gray 2001 996, it was a fantastic looking car.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Today I picked up what is now 996 #5, a 2000 with 95k on it. It's a loaded car with the factory aerokit, litronics, carbon fiber interior, full leather interior, nav and hifi, etc. More importantly the IMS, RMS, and clutch were done 5k ago. It's a good driver that needs a little cosmetic TLC, one of which is the aerokit front spoiler. The car was involved in a front end collision at some point in its life, and the front spoiler was obviously not reinstalled. So the question - what are some aftermarket front spoiler options that will go nicely with the factory aerokit without buying a new uber expensive OEM part?
If you are just talking about the chin spoiler, Pelican sells it (including the mounting hardware) for $83 (996 505 986 00). Shockingly cheap really, but that's good that it is since it rips off if you look at it funny. Ours has been replaced twice already and it's been years since it got ripped off the last time (inclined driveways and speed bumps are not your friends).
Now if you are talking about the whole front bumper, yeah that's pricy.
In retrospect I didn't ask the question very well. The Aerokit 1 has a different front bumper, currently $1995 (!!!) at Suncoast. I'm curious if there is an add-on front spoiler that gives me a similar look without dropping a silly amount of money on a bumper.
nice car - if it were mine I'd first spend the $$ on new wheels. Those just look terribly out of place for an Aero car...more fitting on a 1998 Boxter IMO
If you hang around ebay and the classified sections of Rennlist and 6speed you'll see them pop up now and again. To avoid fitment issues I went with OEM.
I'm not sure, but I think the areokit is much the same as the GT3 bumper cover. If so, a cup splitter will fit and is relatively low cost.

Were the Turbo look wheels available for the Boxter? We have the glossy Turbo looks, but we need to replace them as the chrome is flaking off badly. She can't decide what style she wants though
On a more related note, is the spoiler on the bottom of the Aero bumper (the PN I posted earlier) supposed to be painted? It's been so long that I don't remember. After replying to this thread I found ECS actually had the part for $58 so I've ordered it. My wife thinks it needs to be painted, but I think it is just supposed to be the raw black plastic.
Thanks! I totally agree, it's on my (rather long) shopping list. First choice is a set of 2002 5-spoke Carrera wheels but they seem to be trading for silly amounts of money.
True, but it no longer has the Aerokit front bumper. That's really the root of the problem.
Suppose to be left alone if going for OEM look(unpainted).
Members have fitted the GT3 Cup front splitter to a regular non-GT3 bumper before but it's not everyone's taste.
Cup splitter although direct bolt on to the MK2 GT3 bumpers, MK1 Aero bumpers will require some mods. I'm waiting to put mine on soon.
OP, there is a lower lip add on for non GT3 bumpers from GT3tek:
Or if you don't care about being period correct, there is always the MK2 GT3 replica polyurethane bumper from GT3tek as an alternative which then you can add on the GT3 cup lip splitter if you wish as well.
Alpine, the GT3Tek lower bumper add-on is probably my leading candidate right now. The bumper cover that I have is in good shape, so I'm not real motivated to replace the entire thing.
Check ebay - they sometimes part out for like $800 for the entire set with tires - or you can go with 2005 5 spoke Carrera III wheels in 18" form - will need 5mm spacers to fill out the fender profile but well worth it. Those Carrera III wheels part out for $800 or so with 997 owners opting to upgrade to 19".
But the wheels you're talking about are fantastic - super - light.
Yeah, that sounds about right. I've seen a few sets of the 997 C3 wheels, good to know that they need spacers.
I'm a big fan of lightweight, I'll stick with 17" before buying a set of big heavy 18" wheels.
I believe the lightest weight OEM Porsche 911 wheel is the 18" Carrera lightweight BBS wheels that was the option on 2002+ 996 - IIRC they are lighter than the 17" wheels.

Those are by far my top choice. Sadly not my cheapest choice though. I had a set powdercoated black on my seal gray 2001 996, it was a fantastic looking car.
I looked for almost two years for a used aero or GT3 front bumper as I was not going to pay the going price for a new one. I ultimately chose the GT3 Tek front spoiler add on. I'm completely satisfied with it. The profile is perfect as the last 6-8 inches are the only difference from the stock bumper.
Thanks for the feedback. Which one did you choose, and do you have any pictures? I'm leaning towards their "GT3 Front Lip" just because it seems to better match the factory aerokit.
Correct, except I believe 2000 is mk1. As I mentioned earlier, the car was in a front end accident at some point in its life and the bumper cover was replaced with a non-aerokit bumper. I'm trying to determine how to best get that look back without spending $1500+ on a new aerokit bumper cover. It is a factory aerokit car verified by the window sticker, so the skirts and wing are OEM.
BTW, I love the cup lip on your car. Very nice.
Funny my car was in the same boat. I have an MKII and the PO put MKI side skirts on. It's actually in the body shop now putting on MKII skirts (although aftermarket).
I'll have a set of MKI skirts available for sale soon. One other guy on this site has already given me some interest, but if he doesn't want them are you interested? They're OEM.
I chose the 996GT3 lower front spoiler as I agree with you it fits the original profile better.
You might want to pm Gator996. He had one at one time and I don't think he ever installed it.
I wanted to follow up to show my "fix", a GT3Tek GT3 front spoiler. I would rate quality as being good but not perfect, probably par for the course with aftermarket body parts. On the upside it does seem pretty solid after being installed, so I don't forsee it flapping in the breeze like you see on the primered Civics.
They are crappy camera phone pictures, but you get the idea.
Looks good and its a budget friendly fix. Did you install it yourself and if you did how hard was it? I am considering the getting the gt3 tek aero lip in the new year.
They are the same mk1 side skirts, but it definitely looks that way in the pictures. Oddly enough it came with the 17" wheels per the window sticker, also a first for me. They are now my winter wheels and I'm going to pick up some proper 18" wheels for spring.
I had a body shop paint it, but I did the install. It was easy but a second set of hands were needed. GT3Tek has a decent YouTube video that I followed.
For the price, I think the front spoiler looks great! Gives it a nice aggressive edge.
Norcoastal,
I may be interested in the side skirts. Shoot me a PM, as I didn't see a a contact for you.
Thanks
