Much less wiring to be done and no need to change HVAC compared to my MY'00 with PSM.

Any of you guys using the girodisc brake upgrade with success?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That's one sick puppy!!! Looks like you have put a lot of $$$$ that could have got you wide body turbo, but it looks very well put together. If I were you I would keep the stock look and make it a sleeper. That way you can blow away the real turbos' and make them think twice of what you have done to the car.
I had a tt coupe and loved the idea of this project. the actual motor swap was a friends idea and i bought the car cheap off him and finished the project. Lets just say it was worth it. And half the price of a real tt cabrio. Dont know if any other exist.
I tucked 295 rears on the 19s. The brakes im dealing with now ...thinking girodisc. Not looking to dish 8k in calipers and hub swaps. Everything lines up right now just want a bit better stopping.
Fyi the car has been swapped since mid april 2010. Only in the last year did i pick it up.
please share pics of the build and technical details, I am sure some other people are interested in the conversion... I mean there are number narrow body with blown engines, so the conversion can be very tempting. especially with a 2 wheel drive that would be nuts
what were the biggest challenges ?
4 issues ABS pump from 996 turbo was needed. Fuel pump and custom return line from turbo is needed. Fan wiring under hood was necessary for turbo is 3 way fan. Mounting og turbo motor mount brackets necessary. Also used turbo instrument cluster. Def not for everyone but cool as s**t. Goes back on dyno Monday for more power
OP, def need to upload a Video , either on the street or dyno.
That exhaust has to sound sooo good. I'm glad my Turbo has a Custom Speedtech exh. If not, I'd consider the Kline, also.
I'm thinking it was a gear-head "outside the box" moment. Maybe ( or maybe not) some alcohol and late nights in the garage/man cave.
FWIW, great job and, as you say, "issueless".
Having seen other "brainiac" mods years ago... I'm all for the real-deal and WB P-cars.
To the question Why..... I asked myself the same thing. I bought the car from a friend who just had to have this done I guess. I mean I basically bought it when it was near done because he wanted to buy a coffee shop in Harlem. Anyways I paid very little for the car. His receipts rack up to 57k but I got to reep the benefits so thats why lol.
I bought the car as a stock conversion so all EPL added aftermarket parts for the motor were done by me. never thought I would own a convertible but im lovin it. PS fastest porsche alive is Eddie Bellos Narrowbody hes a good friend. Everyone that sees the car loves it and I love being different.
If you guys know me from 6speedonline you will know I owned a very fast gt800 EVOMS 996tt coupe. I got screwed on a 1000hp build with Steve Kaspar and Imagine Auto and left the porsche scene for a couple years. This is how I got back in. A 996tt WB cabrio with these mods would be in the 60k range. With purchase of car and all mods Ive done im a little over half that. Like I said Unpassable. Now if the car was a hack job and had crazy CELS then this would be silly.... But it doesnt!
Nice to see other loonies too!
Yes, those are the main issues. You had one advantage, namely facelift chassis. Much less wiring to be done and no need to change HVAC compared to my MY'00 with PSM. Which still works.
How's the IC ducting from scoops to ICs done? I had OEM ducts on my hands and ditched them after I saw the space inside rear fenders...
Suman Mitra, thanks for posting. I absolutely get it. Your car is an amazing and unique 996. Very Cool!
Pete95zhn, I have read every post that you have ever made about your car. Your attention to detail on your conversion has made your 996 one of the ultimate narrow bodied examples.
I love the idea of doing an engine swap into our cars. If I could ever get the engine in mine to expire, I would seriously consider a TT, GT3, or LS3 (Renegade) transplant. I appreciate both of you guys posting details here about your cars....they provide inspiration for those of us that enjoy something different.
You guys both have aesthetically pleasing solutions for the IC scoops. It is too bad that there isn't a solution that would allow the IC inlet to be concealed....that would make it a great sleeper. Unfortunately the IC inlet ducts hint at the monster that lurks underneath the hood (or trunk in the case of our cars). Great job guys!
nice setup suman! def a one of a kind. did you swap over the 996tt gear box as well? or did you just mount the 996tt motor to your stock gearbox with custom mount?
Thanks!
About that IC issue. Check out Excellence #214. There's an article about Jeff Zwart's Pikes Peak hillclimber by BBI. Turbo'd GT3RS with water to air ICs. Very trick and most likely expensive system, but if it can keep that car cool in that race, it can do it everywhere. I hope I should have seen that few years back. I was told then that it is impossible to do a water to air system that can withstand track use.
Had no issues with Intercoolers I can see except for the need to trim stock intercooler ducts. Car just put down 650bhp on pump gas at EPL. Youll be suprised how well this conversion was done. Please call Morgan Adams at At speed he can fill you in. Everything looks just a little squeezed in. Upgraded inlets needed modifying but thats it.
