Suggestion · Original poster

I'm trying to replace the bolts with something that isn't half disintegrated from rust...chasing the threads will just get it back on the road for now but the rusted bolts will just continue to rust...

Suggestion

You're welcome, just don't be OCD like KK and replace ALL your bolts with SS.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Getting ready to reinstall my mufflers with stainless steel bolts everywhere that I can. It would appear that the bolts on my clamps (the ones going to the cats) are M10 X 55mm carriage bolts. I can't seem to source these anywhere (at least not without buying 100 of them). Has anyone replaced just the bolts and nuts and if so where did you get the parts? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Chase the threads and apply graphite lube. Simple, effective, done.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

alpine...Maybe I'm missing the point but what does chasing the threads have to do with finding replacement bolts? I'm trying to replace the bolts with something that isn't half disintegrated from rust...chasing the threads will just get it back on the road for now but the rusted bolts will just continue to rust...

POST 4Original post

Didn't realize your bolts were "half disintegrated". In that case: http://www.grainger.com http://www.mcmaster.com Go to town...

POST 5Original post

This has been covered already. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...amp-bolts.html

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks DK570 and alpine003...clearly I have a crappy Lowes and Ace by me because neither of them had anything even close...

POST 7Original post

You're welcome, just don't be OCD like KK and replace ALL your bolts with SS. Lol.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Too funny...I was thinking titanium to match those $700 Tikore lug bolts

POST 9Original post

I posted a quick answer in the older forum discussion. Using stainless bolts with stainless nuts isn't usually recommended for exhaust applications due to galling. Stainless bolts with brass nuts is likely a better idea.

POST 10Original post

Bought mine at the local Lowe's Hardware store. Plan on using a little anti-seeze on them too.

POST 11Original post

For future reference, my mechanic turned me on to this place for a wide selection of metric fasteners/tools: http://www.metricmcc.com/

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
