Solution was to find the power wire on the OBD extension cable (it was the second one in, closest to where the OBD power pin is), and cut that about 6-10 inches from the end that the scanner plugs in to.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

They claimed that this unit had a low power mode, but I guess the wifi signal was always on, so that didn't work.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I had a chance to do some nice easy mods this weekend on the car electronics, and wanted to share, since the results are pretty cool, and everyone here has been so helpful to me. I just purchased my C4, and it came with the tape deck (Didn't those things die in the 90's?), so I knew I wanted to change out the head unit. After doing some research I came upon the double din touch screen head units from China. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Capacitive-D...item4acc546690 Great thing about it was that it was android based which meant that I could have some additional fun. Namely, using the TORQUE PRO app combined with an OBD II scanner. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en The Bluetooth scanners are the cheapest, but I had read that this head unit would not connect to external BT, only to the phone. I tried USB as well, but the head unit wouldn't recognize it, so I went with the WIFI model. http://amzn.com/B00AOIM2CC Now this is big and has lots of flashing lights which is kind of annoying, so I purchased a low profile extension cable to hide it under the center console. http://amzn.com/B00EECXAY8 The next problem was that the unit was also consistently powered through the OBD port, which was a drain on the battery. They claimed that this unit had a low power mode, but I guess the wifi signal was always on, so that didn't work. Solution was to find the power wire on the OBD extension cable (it was the second one in, closest to where the OBD power pin is), and cut that about 6-10 inches from the end that the scanner plugs in to. I then tapped into the accessory wire from the radio (was orange in my case), and spliced that into OBD cable. Now the scanner only powers up when the car powers up. So what do I have now. a full head unit with the standard Radio/Nav/DVD/Ipod etc. I can then open the Torque app, and a customize-able display comes up that can show things like all the operating temperatures, REAL speed, even HP and Torque calculations. If I get any warnings, you can diagnose right there from the head unit and even clear the codes. Another thing I like is that you can even set it to give you a verbal prompt when you've reached operating temperature. Total cost for all this was $510 as follows Head Unit - $310 (ebay seller - estorm_dvd from China - arrived in less than a week!) Radio Install Kit - $160 (ebay seller - euromotorspeed - he rocks!) OBD II Wifi Scanner - $25 (Amazon) OBD II extension calbe - $10 (Amazon) Torque app - $5 (google play) Total Install time was only about 2-3 hours including the full radio install, and moving heater controls. I also picked up a sprintbooster from Amazon Warehouse for only $180 and I'm loving that as well - 15 minute install, and totally makes the car more fun to drive. Overall a great improvement for a couple hours of work, and not a lot of money. The trim needs work... I cracked the bezel since the head unit is over sized. I'm planning on making a custom bezel, which shouldn't be a problem matching up since I'm planning on Vinyl Wrapping most of the trim anyways, since it's pretty beat up.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow.... looking at those pictures on a big screen really show me how bad the trim looks.... guess that's moving up on my priority list.
