Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The previous owner had used the warranty to cover engine replacement when the IMS failed...so I know at least one warranty is pretty comprehensive.

As far as I know Easy Care will need the report from the dealership that there is a clean report of any needed repair

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know its not everyone's best financial move, but for me it worked out just fine.
Most everything besides the engine on the car is replaceable/fixable for far less than the warranty cost + deductible. If a warranty does not specifically cover seals and gaskets, and any related failures, it is essentially worthless for any major engine repairs - exactly the sort of repairs you need covered. For example, rear main seal leaks and intermediate shaft bearing failures, the most common expensive repairs, are both directly related to failed seals.
Some warranties, usually the really expensive ones, can be worth the money. But you really have to do your homework. If you use an independent repair shop talk to them. They are the ones with direct experience trying to get warranty companies to pay.
I did a lot of research when I bought my car four years ago and decided against any purchase.
Great points above. May I add that you ask your local dealer/indy what warranty companies they work with and who are easy to deal with PLUS a good track record of actually covering items. Some will nickel-and-dime even items listed in their FINE PRINT...good luck for issues not spelled out or in the gray area
When I bought my 996 last year, there was an extended warranty which I paid $30 to transfer over from the previous owner for the remaining 17 months. The previous owner had used the warranty to cover engine replacement when the IMS failed...so I know at least one warranty is pretty comprehensive.
I purchased an after market warranty with Protective for $3K. It is a 36 Month 36K Mile warranty and it has already paid for itself. 2 window regulators, a water pump, a seat motor and some other little stuff, so I am a little ahead with a bit less than a year left.
It would cover the engine for in the event of a cracked head/case but not for IMS failure. Also, AOS was not covered since I think our cars are the only ones that have one???
I look at it like insurance that actually pays for some things. I know its not everyone's best financial move, but for me it worked out just fine. My .02's
According to JR most are indeed a waste of money and will not cover CEF.
Gonzo, surprised your covered a water pump. Did they give you any grief about it?
Nope. No prob at all. The warranty covers all pumps, motors, etc. heck, it even covers motor mounts.
What I have learned is the covered part needs to be broken, not almost broken. IE, a cracked serpentine belt isn't covered. A broken serpentine belt is.
If you know what I mean.
By the way KK...replacing your avatar is the best preventative DIY maintenance you have done all year! Nicely done
fidelity replaced my water pump without blinking. so far I am still in the red, but peace of mind is golden.
FYI, if the engine failed, I would have to pay for the teardown to see what failed before they'd pay...a bit annoying
The last extended warranty I purchased was on my Jag and I bought it from the dealer. The fuel rail failed and the warranty denied coverage because "its a carburetor" (I swear to Ferdinand that's what they said). When I pushed back they then decided it was part of the emissions which also was excluded. The dealer wouldn't fight it (they wanted me to pay the $6k the job would cost if I had to pay for it) and then just sat on the car for 3 weeks when I pointed out that if they agree its an emission component then Jag's 10/100 should take care of it.
No way will I waste money on an extended warranty again. Either I'm satisfied with the maintenance and keep the car, or I ditch it and find a new car. For a used car, I go into it expecting it to all be on my head.
Does fidelity sent your car to the dealership for inspection to see if there is any pre-existing problem. As far as I know Easy Care will need the report from the dealership that there is a clean report of any needed repair
