Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Each window has to be done independently and sometimes it gets done by accident after having disconnected the battery.

( I can get it for ~$18k, high miles, but had the engine replaced not too long ago).

Sounds like someone may have tried to clear the airbag light by disconnecting the negative terminal.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm considering buying a 996 but it has the airbag light on. Are there any "common" problems that would cause this?
it also has a problem with the passenger window... it doesnt always do its little roll up roll down trick with opening the door. Again is this common? expensive fix?
The common problem for the
air bag light is the seat belt receiver sensor. Suncoast Porsche can help you with the parts and it is an easy DIY. The window is controlled by a micro switch that may be failing. Good Luck. Both are inexpensive.
mine has a black sticker over the light..... estimated repair cost <$.02, estimated time <1 minute. Overall satisfaction... not bad
defenently was a DIY Ghetto Style
Without the fault code everything is a guess.
Have the fault code read with the Durametric software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester. The fault will tell you exactly where the problem is.
Being new to the Porsche world... are these a dealer only thing.. or are they avail to civilians and if so, how much and where are they avail?
ahh... nevermind... found it....

Thanks all. this makes my potential purchase more attractive. I've found a 99 996 in pretty good shape for a steal... ( I can get it for ~$18k, high miles, but had the engine replaced not too long ago). Seems like it might be a fun weekend car for that price. It would cost me less than my 01 C5 Vette did.
The Window could possibly be fixed by performing recommendations after the battery has been disconnected. You just have to roll the window all the way to the up position, then push and hold it for a couple of seconds, then push and let go. It forgets where the top is if the voltage is lost. Each window has to be done independently and sometimes it gets done by accident after having disconnected the battery. There are several procedures to go through after battery is disconnected. Sounds like someone may have tried to clear the airbag light by disconnecting the negative terminal. That won't work with airbag lights. Or it could be as others have posted.
Window not rolling up/down may be due to failing window regulator ~$200 for parts, and few hours to put in if you've never done it. Otherwise ~$500 at the dealer.
