POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a C2 coming off of CPO coverage December 23rd. I've had a problem with the drivers side rear turn signal flashing very quickly and the front signal not functioning at all for some time now. I was having a new bumper installed and the guys at the shop noticed the same thing and did some troubleshooting (no charge). They swapped out my headlight unit with one from another car and it all worked normally. They concluded the headlight assembly needs to be replaced, which is a very expensive item. Does anyone know if that will be covered under CPO? Next, my ignition switch just started having problems. I had to jiggle it to get the headlights to turn on, and the key is getting stuck, as well as when I turn it off it doesn't want to turn all the way to the left easily. Will this be covered? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Quotes source post: 6039190

It should but if you really want to find out, call a dealership.

POST 3Original post

You should be covered for both under the CPO. I had my ignition switch replaced 2 weeks ago under CPO. Further details and confirmation of coverage of headlights on the PDF at: http://www.porsche.com/microsite/app...005&height=415

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I was at Mikelly's house today to learn about DIY brake pad replacement. He was gracious and I learned a lot, not just about pad replacement but racing and Turbo cars. Thanks Mike if you see this! He has a lift in his garage and we got my car up. This was the first time anyone had a good look at the underside of my car since just after I bought it in July 07. Everything was fine back then. Now however, I have some oil leaking from what we suspect is the RMS. So this has been added to the list of things for the dealer to check on Monday when I take it in. If that is what it is this will be the second replacement, but the last under warranty. What does this repair cost outside of warranty? There has been lot's of discussion about the clutch if replacing the RMS. My car has 42K miles and the clutch feels fine to me, but it has been suggested to others they should replace the clutch while in there doing the RMS work. Thoughts about that?

POST 5Original post

The RMS itself is about $90. The labor to drop the engine is in the $700 to $800 range. If they are going to replace the RMS, then have them check the clutch and give you an idea of how much wear is left on it. If the clutch has 50% or less wear life left on it, I would have them to install a new clutch. The labor will basically be "free." While they are in there, also have them look at the flywheel, which suspect will still be in good shape with onlt 42k miles, but you never know. Let us know how all of the repairs turn out.

POST 6Original post

It sounds to me like you only needed to replace the bulb on the front turn signal- not the whole unit. The oil leak is another issue...

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 6044366

RMS at the dealership outside of your CPO warranty period is around $1100-$1300 and comes with a 1 or 2 year warranty if I recall correctly. Clutch and RMS. "They" say if you drive with an RMS for a really long time the oil some how affects the clutch. But, if they are repairing the RMS the dealer can take a look at your clutch to see if there is a problem and or clean any sloppy oil splashes.

POST 8Original post

The dealer will be more than happy to replace your RMS under CPO.If it is a Porsche CPO and not a dealer CPO. I had the latest seal done 2 yrs ago at the end of a CPO and OK so far. You are lucky to have all this crap out at the end and It'll be covered.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 6045221

What is a dealer CPO and how does it differ?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a Porsche CPO so I'm not worried about the RMS being covered. I'm more concerned about the Ignition switch and headlight. I don't think it's a bulb issue, as that's been replaced twice already and it deosn't account for the rear signal behaving oddly. One thing I've learned over the past few days is all the electronics and computers are interelated. A bad ignition switch can affect the operation of at least the operation of the headlights, the heater blower, the heated seats, and unless you lock the car after you turn it off, auxillary power will still run.

POST 11Original post

AndersOn: There are some dealers that will tell you it's a certified pre owned Porsche. It may be certified by the dealer(bait and switch) and not Porsche. When it gets to a warranty issue you find out it ain't covered by the dealer. The Porsche Certified pre owned comes with a lot of documentation and you get a letter from Porsche outlining the coverage.if you have the real thing then you are OK.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 6045226

Basically, a used porsche warranty for Porsches. It gives you a 2 year/100,000 miles on the odometer almost bumper to bumper warranty.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 6046310

What you are describing is what the Porsche CPO program , which is what I have. I was asking C4CRNA to explain the reference to the 'Dealer' CPO program. Back on topic , sounds like deckman is covered.

POST 14Original post

My ignition switch needed to be replaced and my dealer told me it was NOT covered under CPO. Hopefully you have a more generous dealer!!!

POST 15Original post

I had my ignition switch covered under my third party warranty company, also had my air condition display replaced cause some of the numbers went out. So the CPO better cover it as to my understanding the CPO should be a better warranty.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got off the phone with the dealer service rep. She didn't think the switch was covered but is going to check. I said the problem with the CPO language is it's loosey goosey and open to interpretation on individual parts and she agreed. She said Porsche gives them a list of parts that are covered. I would like to see that list. Will let you know how this progresses. I'd really like to hear from anyone that had the switch replaced or denied under CPO since it's such a common failure.

Do you have any details you can share with me either here or via PM? I think I may have to brace for a fight.

POST 18Original post

That is exactly right. In my experience, if you have a good relationship with your service manager then they can write up a problem whichever way is necessary to ensure it's covered..........

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Uhh, I'm hosed then. I have no relationship with them at all. This is exactly the 2nd time I've had it there for service.

POST 20Original post

Well, if you haven't used the word "SUCK!" in any of your conversations with them, you can be sure that your relationship is stronger than mine.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 6044855

I had a similar issue with the turn signal - pop out the headlight/taillight assembly and inspect the bulb. My dealer checked it for me - a 2 minute operation really - and found a bit of soot on the contact. Cleaned the contact with an emery cloth, popped it back in - all better... Much less expensive than a new assembly if you have a similar problem

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So they say the ignition switch is not covered by CPO. She writing something up, which I guess is a sort of appeal to PCNA and will let me know. It's over $800 parts and labor. When is a warranty not much of a warranty? RMS leak is confirmed. This is the 2nd one on this car. I asked that since it seems to be a recurring problem on this car what happens if it begins to fail in a years time? She said if Porsche pays for it under warranty and it fails at anytime in the future outside of warranty, the customer pays for the repair.

POST 23Original post

doesnt the delair warranty repairs? mine does for 12 or is it 24 months.......so i think they are giving you the runaround......

POST 24Original post

ignition/ignition lock should be covered. They are jerking you around. Don't you have a list of covered items given to you when you got the car and the included warranty?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got a text message. They will cover the switch. I was all set to do a DIY listed on RennTech. I'm almost dissapointed. Now we'll see what they say about the condition of the clutch and flywheel while they have the transmission pulled.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Latest update. RMS is fixed. Clutch is replaced. Ignition is replaced. Headlight assembly unit needs replacement and it is NOT covered by CPO even after service rep appealed to PCNA. If it is denied the dealer want's $2,200 to replace it. This CPO business seems to be at the whim of Porsche unless it's an internal engine component. This has me super pissed at Porsche. From the Porsche CPO brochure in the link above: Engine (incl. radiator, heating/heat exchanger, etc) but excluding the exhaust system • Fuel system (incl. transmitter for fuel supply, pressure sensor, etc) • Cooling system • Transmission (incl. clutch release bearing and clutch fork) • Drive assembly • Steering (incl. power steering and hose) • Brake system (incl. master cylinder, brake booster, pressure accumulator, Porsche Stability Management, etc) • Suspension (incl. supercharger, levelling sensor, pressure sensor, etc) • Air conditioning/heating • Instrument cluster • All pumps • All actuators • All electric motors • All control units • All switches (malfunctions only)

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fir anyone who cares, I just picked my car up. They did the ignition switch, didn't charge me for diagnosing (or rather confirming) the head light assembly issue, replaced the RMS and fixed a leaking IMS (both for the second time), and replaced the clutch. Total bill $785. I have a couple questions. I know RMS leaks tend to recur, bit thought the IMS fix was supposed to be once and done. Has anyone else had this happen more than one time? Next my new clutch has a much lighter pedal feel. Is that normal? I mean it feels Japanese light. I'm not sure I like it, or maybe it's a matter of getting use to it. All in all I'm happy with the dealer, but dissapointed in PCNA over the headlight issue. I will be able to find one used on ebay for $500-700 probably, but it still seems to me something like that should be covered.

POST 32Original post

$785, that is not bad at all! The new clutch should feel "light." That is perfectly normal. As they get worn, they start feeling heavy or stiff.

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tim, thanks. I've never replaced a clutch in my life before so I didn't know that. The bill for the clutch wasn't bad, I have no complaints about that.

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 6064618

Wow, that was a good price. Bet the labor was covered with the RMS. (My clutch went out yesterday, replacement cost about $1650)

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think the CPO covered labor for the IMS and RMS was $1,250. There was no labor charge for the clutch since they had to put it back in there when finishing the RMS work.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
