Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Ok guys, I turned the little thingie (the Guide Rose as we now know) around and believe it now is installed correctly.
Leading evidence: 'Install correctly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install correctly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I would like to get one for the 2009 997 cars (997.5 or face lift cars) becase there have beed some large changes from the '05 - '08 997 models.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I opened the fuel door the other day, I found this small part (see first pic)... any idea what it is and where it goes?
Second pic shows the loose part and my fuel door.
Thanks!
It looks to me like a bump stop of some sort, that may have come out of the exposed cavity at the outer edge of your fuel filler door. The connectors look like it should easily snap back into place.
Good luck!
A couple of possibilities. . .
Check to see if it still locks with the rest of the car. There is a small plastic part at the end of the mechanism (near the bumper stop on the left of your photo.
Also, depending on the size, it almost looks like part of one of those "Plastic rivets" There is one that is kind of exposed on the end of the plastic strap that is connected to the gas cap. It attaches at the lower right. Just check to see if it is still attached.
Hey, just checked and mine was loose but not fully off. If you open the fuel door and operate the lock you can see a plunger (coated cable?) go in and out. The part you found goes over this and just pressure fits into the sheet metal. Not the most secure in the world, but who siphons gas anymore anyway . . . Locking caps date back to when gas was expensive, I think $1.00/ gallon.
Looks very slightly different than mine, but as long as it is tight should work just fine. Funny, I never noticed that my fuel door lock was not working until now!
Dutchie,
You need to see if you can attach the part you found (#12 - guide rose) to the actuator (#11). The guide rose (#12) slides into the teh cap (#7) to lock teh door. You can easily see the cap (#7) on the far right side in the 2nd pic you posted.

Thanks Jon and Tim!
Tim, your schematics are always terrific. Where do you get those from?
I draw them from memory!
Just kidding!
They are from the PET catalogue that I down loaded over 3 years ago. The problem is, I can't remember where I got it. I would like to get one for the 2009 997 cars (997.5 or face lift cars) becase there have beed some large changes from the '05 - '08 997 models.
