Yeah I looked for the screw- didnt see even cut the little plastic boot underneath to see it more-- I think later models or some shift ***** dont have it--I checked the OEM shifter and there was no evidence of a small set screw--oh well

Trust me, if your car was inthe shop for an accident YOU would have to fight to get genuine OEM parts and not your insurance company since the bodyshop will (and the insurance company will allow) use of non-OEM replacement parts in many cases.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well the 2 best upgrades hands down--PSE and B&M SSK.
I installed the SSK myself--pretty easy except getting the shift **** off--had to put the originial shifter in a vice and pull!!! Otherwise fairly smooth and easy--of course reading the DIY and people suggestions it went smooth.
Also after reading about counting the threads on the shifter cables, what do i do??? Just YANKED them WITHOUT COUNTING DUH!!!!! Oh well played around with them and Im happy on how it performs.
People stated a bolt action rifle feel and thats exactly how it is- just these small metal clicks-AWESOME
Thanks for everyone sharing
Mike
First let me send my congrats!!! Great mods. They are my 2 favorites on my 996.
As for your vice and pull comment....not trying to sound like a smart a** but you realize there is a screw that loosens so the shifter comes right off??? It's hidden way up the shifter's "leather skirt" on the front side. Hard to see if you dont' know what to look for.
As for the threads, the new directions are set up so you don't have to count threads, but if you are ok with doing the adjustment yourself (which it sounds like it came out fine) then no biggie.
Happy Motoring!!!

I'm getting my SSK installed tomorrow. Due to insurance constrained I had to go with the Porsche model. I hear that it's the exact same as the B&M, is this true ? Does it shift as well ?
My insurance company won't allow any modification to the vehicule....unfortunately I was dumb enough to ask...likely due to my wife's addiction to speeding tickets. In any case, they are allowing me to relace parts by other OEM parts as I convince therm that these were "options"...so SSK is an option, PSE & X-74 as well....it does limit my choice and will cost a lot more $$$$.
A friend of mine like to say "Let the stupid pay"...well I was stupid enough to ask my insuranc company so I'm paying......
Thanks Jeff. Actually I just alked to Loren about 5 mintues ago and found that out. Notheless, great catch and thanks for the info.
MBERGERON......."modification" to the vehicle. I find this comical. In any case, it's your call and the insurance is not who you need to worry in terms of the SSK, it's the dealership if they want to deny a warranty claim. That's why those of us with B&M instead of the overpriced OEM one kept the original shifter to replce in case it is needed for warranty issue. As for the insurance company, they can't tell you that you can't modify the vehicle (that's against the law), but you do have an obligation to let them know if there is anything "additional" added to the car like high end stereo, special wheels, etc., so they have it on file for any potential future claim.

May in the US insurance is a tad different, but here in Canada I have a specific item on my insurance that states that any "significant" modifications will render the insurance void....I guess you have to go to court to determine what "significant" means. Our insurance companies will try everything they can so that they refute a claim. Most Canadians seems to accept crappy and inadequate service...you just have to look at what party they keep voting in power. C'est la vie up here.
Oops, I didn't read you signature. Didn't realize you were in Canada. That sux about the insurance companies there. So they think that a SSK is a significant modification? A supercharger I can understand, but a SSK? Wow, that is nitpicky of them.
I'n not saying they think it is...I'm saying that I don't really want to find out the hard way...i.e you total your car and they deny the claim based on that !!! That means "see y'a in court" and get the checkbook for the lawyers...in any case I hope it's as good as the B&M...will know tomorrow.
