However I didn't have a wobble extension, so I put the Fabs on and will change the plugs another day.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The cans were easy thanks to gota911's instructions. However I was going to change the plugs too. So I started with the hardest rear one first since the cans were off. However I didn't have a wobble extension, so I put the Fabs on and will change the plugs another day. I'll just pull the cans again since that will be very quick now. The Fabs are bit quiter than I thought they would be. However no droning on the freeway, except around 60 mph with a 6th gear tip-in, but that's not really an issue. No I wonder how the Fab cans would sound with the cat delete pipes....hmmm.

POST 2Original post

Quiet inside the cab, but try opening the windows thru a tunnel, or parking lot, or between a couple buildings, they might be louder than you think. Plus they will burn in and change over the next while. Good job on the DIY!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, too quiet in the cab, but better than stock that's for sure. I was hoping for a sharper, more aggressive sound. Not complaining about the Fabspeeds - they are a good trade off between better sound (and hopefully a few hp) a little to no drone on the freeway.

POST 5Original post

Nice first mod! Actually it's kind of a triple benefit: better flow/hp, better sound, and shedding some weight from the stock boat anchors.....

Thanks. I was hoping for a little snap, crackle, pop sound. You know a little deceleration noise. What do I need for that to happen...catless? Listen to this Cayman...very mean sounding in my opinion. I like it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj5mo9GAZyc

POST 7Original post

Add CAI, headers and a flash will get you the sound you want.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What about adding the cat bypass pipes...will that make a big difference? Of course I'll have a CEL which could be an issue for the CPO.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 7164167

The CAI will make a diff in sound.... no need for bypass. Sports Cats will also add to the note w/o having a cel. Slippery Slope dude!

POST 10Original post

I dont know, I listened to that Cayman on better sound system. IMO its too much note on too stock of a car. The drive away, listen how far you can here it and how loud his down shift is maybe 1/2 mile or more away... just too loud. My guess is that his head will be sick of that noise in 1000 miles or less even if his ego says he still likes it. I had bypass pipes for a little less than a week.... I think my ears are still ringing from the drone - BUT MAN DID IT SOUND COOL!!!

POST 11Original post

The sound generation setup I have, I really like EVOMS Intake + Plenum + PSE + Fabspeed Cat/X Pipe Compliant for street and can open it up and let it howl on track. Being able to 'mute' it also is a plus for early morning departures. I don't have any recorded audio presently. Hope to rectify in a few weeks.

The r/b was supposed to be installed this past Saturday, but we got the crap weather here in NC, especially around the shop, so I had to push the date out to Jan 2.

POST 14Original post

wait - how is this helping MY problem ? LOL we didnt get snow so our news has been a re-broadcast of your news....sort of scare tactics for future panic broadcasting - looks pretty bad (err good depending on your viewpoint)

ha, yeah me too..... I did have other guys (driving S4, 997, Vette, and a guy on a mountain bike!) chasing me down just to ask me what kind of muffler I was running. The bypass pipes are so loud inside the car that it's like your interior is already stripped!

Ha, yeah, I had stopped at a gas station -- I thought he was going to ask me for a couple bucks, ha. Turned out he was a fellow 996'er.....

POST 18Original post

after a week of driving mine I would have traded them for his mountain bike

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It sounds like catless it not the way to go. And I don't want to pony up $1500 for sport cats. Maybe the CAI mufflerectomy is in order!
