Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I wasn't thrilled with the method of adjusting fore/aft "play" in the shifter once in the tower, using the threaded sleeve and jamb nut.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust fore/aft "play" in the shifter once in the tower' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust fore/aft "play" in the shifter once in the tower' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. At least it's easy to adjust later by just removing the shift boot.

So, I went old school - I simply counted the threads and popped the ribbed ends out, and then disconnected the ball joint ends on my workbench where I could invert the tower, and had plenty of room to work.

They go south at the worst possible time, especially at the point where you disconnect the shift cables.

My car had the set screw on the shifter, so I avoided any dental bills trying to get it off.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, I put the B&M SSK in this weekend. Here are my thoughts:
Installation:
1. As everyone else said, the B&M instructions suck. They go south at the worst possible time, especially at the point where you disconnect the shift cables.
2. I read about the method of not disconnecting the cable ends as specified in the instructions, instead popping of the cables where they actually attach to the shifter. I actually found this to be MORE difficult to do, within the confined space of the tower, and seeing that the cable end (ball joint) for the forward gears was encased in soft rubber. I was worried about damaging the rubber. So, I went old school - I simply counted the threads and popped the ribbed ends out, and then disconnected the ball joint ends on my workbench where I could invert the tower, and had plenty of room to work. Re-installing by counting the threads was a piece of cake, so I'm not sure why so many dislike that method.
3. My car had the set screw on the shifter, so I avoided any dental bills trying to get it off.
4. It was apparent that it's easy to damage the front of the handbrake boot removing the center console. They should say to take care of this in the instructions. Luckily, I saw the potential so I was careful.
5. I wasn't thrilled with the method of adjusting fore/aft "play" in the shifter once in the tower, using the threaded sleeve and jamb nut. At least it's easy to adjust later by just removing the shift boot. I'd be really unhappy if it required removing the whole console.
Driving impressions:
1. The short throw is great.
2. The mechanical feel (some call it "notchy") is fine. I've been driving race cars for a number of years now and they've all felt this way, so I feel right at home. The downside of this is that in the race cars, you can't hear the shifter working because it's so damn noisy otherwise. Those of you who like quiet operation of your factory shifter may not like some of the metallic "clunk" noises this thing makes, especially in 1st and 3rd gear. Personally, I don't mind it.
3. I've read that some people feel it's better after the car's warm. I can't tell an operational feel difference warm or cold.
4. The 5th to 4th downshift can be a little tricky, in terms of finding 4th gear. Admittedly I've only driven about 20 miles with it so that may not be the most informed comment.
Overall, I'd say it's a good mod. Took me about an hour to do it.
