Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There is no "whining" sound from the fan belt, and when I had it at the dealers for service they checked the fan belt and said that there was nothing wrong with the belt.
Leading evidence: 'Check fan belt and said' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fan belt and said' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I have a strange thing with my 996 Turbo -01, but before I try to explain it I just want to tell you that I probably will not use exactly the right words...but I hope that you will understand me anyway.
As I sad, I have a strange thing with my 996 Turbo -01. Every time I have washed the car and I start the engine there seem to be now charging from the generator...or at least the voltmeter isn't moving above 10-11 volts.
This is for about ~15-45 sekund, after that it starts to charge and the voltmeter shows something like 13-14 volts. There is no "whining" sound from the fan belt, and when I had it at the dealers for service they checked the fan belt and said that there was nothing wrong with the belt.
Otherwise the generator seem to work just fine...
Besides this I have another small most annoying oddity with my car...and I am starting to think that they some how are conected to each other.
Hmm..this will be hard to explain...
Sometimes it seems as if the engine hesitate, or it can even feel like a small shake/jerk, when you "step on the throttle"...especially when you do it gentle, for instance when you are driving slowly in town.
It doesn't matter if the engine is cold or warm, or if it is dry or wet...this problem appear at random..
When I drive the car "hardcore attackmode" the engine revs like a dream, and there is definitely no hesitation at all....unless I mistakenly hit the revlimit..
Now I really hope that you understand my "swenglish" (swedish/english)...
Many thanks!
Sounds like your alternator is not working right. If I understand your correctly
1. alternator not outputting 12-13v consistently
2. engine hesistates
I think #1 requires new alternator (get OEM). #2 could be the same problem since it's probly ignitiion related.
Typical turbo idiosyncrasies. Just rev the engine and the alternator will start charging. The off-idle stumble can happen too - might be time for new plugs if your mileage is getting near 30k.
I get strange things also after I wash the car -- I think that your belt is OK -- but you are just getting a little slip. If I have the A/C on I always get a little slip after I wash it. If you look at the way the water flows off of the car -- some of it flows directly to the belt.
Also when I am going about 30mph -- and the RPM are not high I also get the same thing. It is as if I am moving the gas a little. I was also told that this is common.
Never any problem at higher revs and this is not the varocam in action
Oboy...me and my english..
Alternator, is that the same as generator?
Like this example:
But if there should be a problem with my alternator isn't it strange that it always, with the exception of the 15-45 sec, charges as it should (13-14 volt on the voltmeter)?
I'll definitely try to remeber to turn of the A/C the next time I start the engine after a wash. One thing I don't know yet is if the same can happend after a heavy rain..
Many thanks to all of you!
Best regards /Pr
Don't worry about it. A lot of the terms are different across the globe. For example, when we hear windscreen, those of us in the US think of the cab wind deflector rather than the front glass (as we in the US would say windshield) like the guys in the UK.
