Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used the changer in the trunk for about 3 months until I figured out how to open the faceplate on the head unit in the cockpit.

the first time i test drove a prosche was with my dad and it was a 2002 yellow C4S.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, most of us have had them. You've just bought your first Porsche. You're intoxicated and dazed and you're trying to take it all in. You inevitably make a bone headed mistake like...
1. Siting in the car trying to figure out where the key goes.
2. Arguing with the autoparts guy for 30 minute that the short profile battery he just sold you doesn't look anything like the long format one int he car...
Anyone else...?
the first time i test drove a prosche was with my dad and it was a 2002 yellow C4S. we both spent a good 5 or so minutes trying to find the ignition till the sales guy came back and helped us out. we even tried the glovebox lock haha
I owned my 996 for several weeks before I realized that there were pockets in the doors. I understand that I'm not the only one to overlook them.
I still can't remember how to set radio presets. I've got the far right one preset to the end of the dial. I just push that one and rotate backwards from there.
7th gear.
I'm tooling along, enjoying the drive. A regular Sunday drive. Stop at a light. Shift into 1st, leisurely move out, upshift to second, then the next gear, then the next gear, then the next gear, then the next, then the ...oooops... no more gears
.
Well, I did call the service department to see why one rear fog light was out . . .
Other than that, just once I was pushed a little too hard to the left while shifting into 1st at a light and got reverse. Nice heart-stopping moment. Then I programmed the right mirror to aim down when in reverse.
OK Phil, I'll confess. This one should make you feel better!
I picked up the car just north of Atlanta and looked forward to the 4-hour drive back to Charlotte. After 3 hours I decided to stop and stretch a little and get some gas. Pulled up to the left side of the pump, and said to myself "Self, I know the gas lid probably has a lock on it, so how do I unlock it?" I took out the manual and started searching. After about 5 minutes I get out of the car and push on the lid. Yup.... it opened!
Learned later that the gas lid locks and unlocks with the doors.
I couldn't figure out for the longest time where to insert a CD! I used the changer in the trunk for about 3 months until I figured out how to open the faceplate on the head unit in the cockpit.
I had a hard time getting into Reverse the first time after purchasing the car.
I was just trying to be so gentle on everything...I tried pushing down, a couple different tugs, then I realized you just need to put some effort getting across the detent.
I really didn't want to have to ask how to put it in Reverse, ha.
I only realized that the cup holder in the facelift cars holds two cups last week. I've been making passengers either not bring or hold their own drinks for six months. Of course, since I found out I've only told my brother, everyone else has to hydrate before boarding.
Tim, not sure it makes me feel better, or just makes me more comfortable that we're both morons. I had the same experience with my gas lid - good thing the car came with a full tank, and that I never drove the car because if I ran out of gas, for the first couple of weeks of ownership , I had no clue how to open it, so I couldn't fill it. Now, I'm terrified to lock the doors since I'm afraid I won't remember how to open them (and thus, open the gas lid)! Getting old sucks.
After picking up my new car, I had to drive it home 90+ miles at night. I figured I'd take it easy and stay in the travel lane on cruise control till I became comfortable with everything. I pushed the stalk to get the speed up a little and by mistake hit the headlight/washer the rush of water looked like smoke billowing from the front. For a few seconds of sheer panic (before I thopught things out) I thought the engine had blown as I had read all those posts from Bob before I bought my car.
LOL!!!
For most of us, all our instincts tell us a car engine is in front, and it takes conscious effort to remember it's in the rear. That, plus our fascination with horror stories, and this could easily have been anyone of us.
I admit it, a month ago, about 15 months into ownership, I discovered the drink holder holds two.
It took me about a month to discover the door pockets.
After driving the car all weekend, I'll find myself on Monday morning getting into my Cherokee with the key in my left hand, stabbing it into the dash.
Thank God I'm not alone on this one and maybe add to it trying to jam the shifter on my wife's Rav-4 into the upper left for reverse when hers is in the bottom right!!
Pete
Driving the car home I realized I din't know how to open the gas tank. Then my daughter wanted to plug her IPOD converter into the casette tape player.
I can definitely relate. Between the 911, the SAAB 9-5, and the Acura MDX I have three different ignition key locations. Sometimes more of a Monday morning challenge than my feeble brain can bear.
When we went to the dealership to order the car, my wife asked the salesman how you open the hatchback (this was before there was a 996 targa that actually has a rear window that can be opened like a hatchback for access to the rear storage area). The salesman and I chuckled.
I keep trying to downshift my automatic Nissan Armada.....my wife asks why I
am driving with my hand on the shift lever of an atomatic......I tell her it's more
comfortable!!!!
Did you ever notice that the drink cup symbols on the facelift cupholder show a large cup on the left and a small one on the right? The actual holder openings are also sized like that. Deeper wider on the left, shallower, smaller on the right. BTW, does anyone know if the sunroof is supposed to be a one touch close from the vent position? All the other buttons for open & close are one touch, except that one.
Kind of a late addition, but just did my most typical "porshe oops." Actually, it was not in the Porsche. How often do you guys get into your truck or SUV and try to take an exit at 911 speed?
2 cup holders? on an 02? I'm serious.
More proof that an otherwise intelligent human being can be a complete idiot:
99 C4 Cab - Drove home from Philadelphia and panicked when the car would turnover. Called the dealer and he suggested I make sure the clutch was completely depressed.
99 C4 Cab part II - why is the oil pressure so high on higher revs? Uh, you want that.
95 993 Cab - where's the temperature gauge for the radiator? Oh #$@$ it's air cooled.
My 99 is just like that; everything else is one-touch except the sun roof down positon, it is automatic going up but not down. Oh-Well.
Hope that helps,
Patrick
