coilover ssp

Hey guys I got a good deal on h&r coilover set [ model # 29510-1 ]. should i get them or should i go with the pss9. i have been told that with the h&r i can only lower the car and with the pss9 i can go lower and shock adjustment . i dont track the car ! [ my ride is a 99 c2 ] any info will help. thanks shane

If you're not going to track the car then I wouldn't bother with an adjustable suspension, or coilovers at all for that matter. For pure street use I would look at lowering springs (H&R) or an OE sports suspension package (ROW M030 or X74). I can't see any possible reason to have an adjustable track suspension on the street, unless it's setup by a pro you could have an ill-handling, dangerous ride. Remember every single ride height change will require another alignment. Just my .02, I really think the factory stuff is best on the street.

On the other hand, if you're getting an awesome deal on the H&R coil overs then it might be something to consider.

Doug, I remember Hurley Haywood and Dave Murray laughing about pss9's on the street when we were at the PDE. I gotta think those guys know a little something. The only possible advantage to H&R's is the fact that they are non-adjustable, less variables to introduce.

C4S Surgon: Can you elaborate on "Hurley Haywood and Dave Murray laughing about pss9's on the street"? What are they laughing pss9 about? I have the pss9 on my 2000 C2 and am loving it. It gives my car good road maner, lowered ride height, more negative camber, and be able to adjust the shocks for track events. I think the pss9 is a very good street / track setup. I drive my car as much as possible both on street and track. Kam

Yes, please elaborate on Hurley Haywood and Dave Murray laughing about pss9's on street... i'm having a set installed on my car now and am interested in hearing why... I know of a few pro 996 cars (rolex, daytona, etc) setup with pss9 (not in stock form of course) that broke lap records at homestead and other tracks (driven by pro drivers).

Hey Doug i can pick up the set [ h&r ] for $ 1700.00 [ new in the box ] ,the cost of M030 is about $500.00 less,i think i get much more with the h&r. lots of guys here do a coilover mods ,and they dont track the cars. i get a lot out of coilovers whithout spending time at the track,such as lower ride...better handling .....looks sharp.........etc my point was h&r vs pss9 anybody with experience or any input H&R VS PSS9 tnx shane

Once you installed the H & R and found that its too low or not low enough for your taste, you're stuck. With PSS 9 you can adjust ride height and comfort. I got my PSS 9 from Gert which costed me about $1,800 including shipping from Europe.

gert is asking 1950.00 euros = $2600.00 us,when did you get yours? the h&r will drop the frt 30-60mm and 20-50 mm at the rear.... nobody here got here got h&r[coilovers] on his 996?!

I would go with the H&R if it's significantly cheaper than the PSS9s. Zblue, ALL coilovers , by definition, allow ride height adjustment. Just a spring change, H&R or otherwise, with oem struts will not. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. If you're going with the PSS9s, I would get them from a US source for the lifetime warranty and the current (lousy) exchange rates. Nothing against Gert, he's a great guy and I have done business with him, but the current exchange rate makes it very difficult. I think what the PDE were laughing because a lot of people modify their cars excessively and have virtually no driving skills to even test the stock performance envelope.

I've got the H&R Coilover kit, and it is a BIG improvement over stock...BUT, next time I will probably get something even stiffer. I don't really care about getting something adjustable, but something a little stiffer would be better for me. Perhaps the PCS or RSS coil over kit. It depends on the price and availablity. A couple points. A coilover is a coil spring over a damper. They are not all adjustable. I would guess that Hurley Haywood and Dave Murray were laughing at PSS9s not becuase they aren't good but because they are complete overkill for a street car. Not that overkill is bad. Shane, I had H&R coilovers for a couple of years before converting my 99 to a full time race car. I think they are a great compromise for the street. Jim

Exactly as Doug and Jim said, they were'nt cutting down coil-overs, just people with zero experience putting them on street cars. They just found some of it humorous that's all. There was a guy on another board with a brand new C4S or 40th who was fixin' to put them on just to drive fast on the onramp, guy had zero experience. Otta' at least try a car like that out of the box first, you might be surprised what it can do!
