Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I drive my c4s cab all year round and I use one of the washing bays, however, I stay a little bit away from the car at first just to remove the loose dirt and salt, then as I get the car cleaner I can use more of the spray hose.

Suggestion
I would say you can avoid going into full cleaning mode every time, but you'll want to keep on top of the salt and soil that gets on/in your car through winter.

I used the same "technique" on my first Pcar, a 944, which I owned for just over five years and put over 100k on it in that time.

I highly recommend the new Mr Clean auto dry car wash kit as your quick interim solution because you can hook it right up to your hose, and it really does a great job (dries spot free) without having so much pressure that it scratches the clearcoat.

Would you run it through a car wash or only use a hand wash?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I plan on driving my C4 all winter long, but after the first storm its quite dirty (I suppose with road salt etc.) SHould I clean it now only to get it dirty again tomorrow? How damaging are the winter elements to the finish? Would you run it through a car wash or only use a hand wash? Could get very expensive if I have to have it hand washed every time. Thanks for your feedback.
I would make a semi-regular trip to the kind of car wash where you pull into a bay and use a spray washer at the very least. I would say you can avoid going into full cleaning mode every time, but you'll want to keep on top of the salt and soil that gets on/in your car through winter. I find a regular soapy hosing will tie me over until I have time/energy/weather to do a proper cleaning. (which sometimes isn't until spring!) My Boxster is in it's second winter as daily driver duties and still looks great. I used the same "technique" on my first Pcar, a 944, which I owned for just over five years and put over 100k on it in that time. When I sold it, the paint was still shiny and there was no rust to be found despite my year 'round daily use and 150k+ on the odometer.
Becarful not to blast the dirt/salt off your car with the spray washer. This will actually cause the salt to scratch your paint. I drive my c4s cab all year round and I use one of the washing bays, however, I stay a little bit away from the car at first just to remove the loose dirt and salt, then as I get the car cleaner I can use more of the spray hose.

I highly recommend the new Mr Clean auto dry car wash kit as your quick interim solution because you can hook it right up to your hose, and it really does a great job (dries spot free) without having so much pressure that it scratches the clearcoat. That having been said, I don't know if it sounds like you can use your hose this time of year, so be careful. A broken water spicket from ice could really make for a bad day. Either way, it still works great the rest of the year.
Be sure and clean the door jams and dry out inside the engine cover and trunk lid. I read that the door jam can especially form rust, so I take special care there and underneath the doors.
