I just finished doing the install and with out having instructions, ran into the same problem and then realized I had to relocate the pump with their included flimsy bracket.

I would expect the after market parts to be engineered as well as the parts that I am replacing, otherwise I'll leave it as is.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

i am now using the bracket (it hit me right after i posted here), but even with the bracket i am still having problems.
hey all...
i am in the middle of the evo v-flow install and it wont go in properly. the car is 2003 C2 Cab. could it be they sent me the wrong part? if you look at the pic, you will see me pointing at the part it is hitting against. they both cant seem to be there at the same time
help? anybody???
Your lucky day. I ran into this a while back while installing the unit on my dad's car. For some reason that I do not comprehend, the evo instructions fail to mention that you must relocate the secondary air pump (the thing you are pointing to), in order to get the intake to fit. In fact, that is the purpose of the black bracket that is included in the intake kit. You were probably wondering what the hell that thing was, since it is not referenced in the instrutions (I know I was!). Well, if I recall correctly, you use that bracket in lieu of the stock bracket and remount the air pump, which causes it to be shifted out of the way just enough to get the intake to fit. I even called evo to tell them about this problem in their instructions. They expressed surprise at the ommission, thanked me, and apparently, never changed the instructions. Good luck.
thanks scott.. i am now using the bracket (it hit me right after i posted here), but even with the bracket i am still having problems. now the air pump wont go in properly. it is hitting the white thingie which holds the fluid (for the power top?)
was the car that you did this on a cab?
jkb - also be careful after you relocated the smog pump that the air hose that goes into it stay connected. I ended up putting a clamp at the end of the hose because at the angle the pump was, it didn't seem like the hose wanted to stay in its spot!!!
so i installed the v-flow on friday and got GIAC ECU done on tuesday by alex @ sharkwerks (thanks dude).
i can feel the difference, especially between 4,500-6,500 RPM. it would definitely be worth the money if total for v-flow and GIAC was around $1K total. with almost $1,700 for both, it is kind of pushing it though...
i wish i could dyno the car before and after... how much does dyno cost anyways?
Hey jkb.
I just finished doing the install and with out having instructions, ran into the same problem and then realized I had to relocate the pump with their included flimsy bracket.
Does the air pump now sound like a vacume cleaner on cold startup and sometimes when stopped at a light.
What do people think about the metal evo plate, is it dangerous to keep on. I read it can vibrate off, or get to hot at the track and pop off.

I've had my EVO intake and GIAC flash for a few seasons now. The "vacuum cleaner" noise on cold start-up has always been a mystery....happens every time to me. I track my car extensively and have never had an issue with any part failing/falling off.
Cheers

I have the same mods for a year or two and the same sound started after I moved the air pump also. I had this looked at by the dealer and was told that it was normal and made that sound all the time. The only reasonable explanation I could get was that now the sound was more pronounced due to the sound bouncing off the rear fender instead of being deflected by the more cramped engine space. Don't know if that's true, but I haven't had any problems yet.
yes, the bracket is flimsy. i have learned to live with and ignore the vacuum cleaner sound on startup or idle.
what i should do is contact evo guys though and complain. just never got around to it.
I did not like the flimsy bracket and the fact that the hose had to be held on by a hose clamp and it also rubbed up against the coolant reservoir. I would expect the after market parts to be engineered as well as the parts that I am replacing, otherwise I'll leave it as is. My evo air induction is being returned. Hopfully they will make a new breather box that will not require the relocation of any other components. Does any one have any expeirence with the k&n air induction system?
Do a search. From what I have read (about the K&N) I doubt you will find the quality you are looking for there. I have no experience with either product.
