Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

I'd probably go to a repair shop that specializes in rebuilding parts for heavy equipment that also specializes in alternators and has converted another cars alternator to 300amp for me.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was reading "The Used 911 Story" last night, and it said that Porsche was only selling complete engines and transmissions for the 996 and not repair parts for the engine and transmission. Is this still true? If so, what model year did this begin? I do all the work on my cars, including engine rebuilds, so this section of the book kind of freaked me out. If I can't buy parts, I probably won't buy a 996.

POST 2Original post

Given that there are surely north of 300,000 M96 engines on the road (every Boxster, 911 and Cayman built from 1996 to 2008), this would be very surprising indeed. I'll be curious to hear someone in the know answer this question. If no, then I'll predict that Jake Raby and Charles Navarro don't have to worry about missing yacht payments for a few years.

POST 3Original post

They just recently started selling parts for the engine and transmission. Within the last year or so I think.

POST 4Original post

Dave! is correct. About 12 to 18 months ago Porsche began making engine and transmission parts available.

POST 6Original post

i just had my Tranny Rebuilt at the Dealer for half the cost of a new one back in June...

POST 7Original post

I saw one online store qoute $1,000+ for an alternator. I'd probably go to a repair shop that specializes in rebuilding parts for heavy equipment that also specializes in alternators and has converted another cars alternator to 300amp for me. I think Porsche has a solid income.
