Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Anyway all the original dealer would do was confirm the last oil change, said rest of history was confidential to last owner?

If the PO used an indie, it's going to be a black hole unless he/she offers up paper records.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I hav ethe VIN # of a car I am interested in from one dealer but the car was originally purchased from another dealer. Anyway all the original dealer would do was confirm the last oil change, said rest of history was confidential to last owner? how the heck can i get this data.... track down the old owner and asking them to go to a dealer in person and give written OK for data to be released is not an option.
Also whats PPI I see people saying its a must have.... assume its having a dealer go through car before purchase etc? Thanks all
The dealer might be dodging your request. I have the service records for my car as printed off their system. There is no owner info. Just VIN, complaint, service action, mileage. The printouts don't even look like work orders.
The only thing to bear in mind is that the records will only show service performed by a dealer. If the PO used an indie, it's going to be a black hole unless he/she offers up paper records.
Since my dealership originally sold my car and I have always had the service done there, all of the records are in their computer. The service manager has talked me through the complete history, but when I asked if he would print it out, he told me the owner has forbidden that. They will tell you anything you want to know verbally, but the owner refuses to allow the service manager to print out any service records.
Both the service manager and I are equally perplexed, but the service manager said the owner almost fired him the one time he did it and the owner found out. I guess when you own a Porsche dealership you get to make arbitrary decisions that don't always make sense.
I have to go and pick my car up there this week and will bring pen and paper to write the whole history down as he reads it off. Stupid, isn't it, but this dealership has been so good in so many other ways, I will forgive this particular bit of nonsense.
When I bought my Boxster, I was able to find a card in the car that told me where it had been serviced in the past. I called them up and they gave me the service history over the phone with no problem. I think policies vary dealer to dealer. They are independent after all.
I guess that you are not buying it from a Porsche dealer, right? If not go back the the other and read through it with them since they will do that. You will see all the history from Porsche. If you buy the car you will then be able to get the print out
