Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've got one running at Rennlist. Wanted to see if anyone here wanted this product.
Here's a link:
https://www.wilhelmy-it.de/sms/shop/...VyZXIiO047fQ==
If we reach 10 of each product, we get $40 off each product, plus free shipping. If you order both products, you get $80 off, free shipping, and the install tool for free.
Looks like a great product with some neat features. It's not just for cabs either, as the remote top unit also works with the coupe to control the windows.
If you're interested, please reply to this thread with your screen name, make of car, and the product you want. Just cut and paste the other participants into your thread so we can keep an accurate list. After we reach the specified number of buyers, I will post the dates when you are to call in place your order. I will also post the discount code. This GB is listed on Rennlist, 6speed, and Speedbrigade. Please do not reply to this thread on more than one forum. Stick with one so I can keep an accurate head count.

we seem to have hit our targets....so with the 6speed post you put up and this here it will be closer to 20 of each....does that mean anything to the group buy?
d-dog,
i think we need to press them go give us a better deal.
i just don't feel right about the price-hike. it's electronics, unless they come up with new features, their pirce should away drop, not raise.
this is the best deal we can get. their original pricing was more in line with being introductory and new to the marketplace.
they ARE NOT going to lower the price any more. believe me, i have tried. even though their base price is higher than before, $40 is the most they have EVER taken off for a group by. we have not gotten any additional buyers from 6speed or speedbrigade. all we have is what is posted here.
as far as the gentlemen inquiring about the remotekey, i think you mean the remotetop. you can purchase just the remote top.
it is what it is, boys....
this is still a better deal than retail, and does include shipping and the free tool if you buy both. i am not sure if dell's deal included shipping or the tool.
anyway, the group buy will probalby be opening today. i will post more details. there are a couple kinks i need to work out with them as far as the ordering process goes.
once the GB code is posted and the mininum number of orders are reached, the products will begin shipping.
more details to follow.
i thought i was pretty up front about the pricing. if anyone wants to back out based on account that it is not a good enough deal, please let me know now so we can have an accurate head count. $80 off the pair, free shipping, and the free tool isn't too shabby. not as good as i would have liked, but as good as it's going to get.
DDog
Thanks for all your efforts! As part of my "shopping" I checked on ebay, the ebay posting is "the companies"; when I inquired about a combination purchase(remoteTop+smartTop, the deal was sweetened by a $20 discount + tool and shipping. $40 per item + free tool is a far better value. I will watch for future info.
Dog, I think that everyone on the list is confirmed. Indeed, they, including myself, agreed at the price you got for us and it's a better deal than nothing. I think that Trozenhorse simply wanted to see if there was any more juice that you could squeeze from the stone. Your efforts are totally appreciated. Thanks again.
okay, here it is. the GB is officially open. here is the info:
Here's the promotion code: "RLGB060201"
For technical reasons each product must be ordered seperately: Groupbuyers who want smartTOP and remoteTOP/KEY should please enter 2 seperate orders using that groupbuy code. This way you will get the groupbuy rebate on each product, they will
include the toolset for free on those orders.
please get your orders in as soon as possible. i believe this buy runs till the 10th. however, they won't ship till at least ten orders of each product are placed so that they can commit to the special pricing.
Hey Dog, thanks for organizing the group buy, muchos gracias. I'm confused about how to order both SmartTOP and RemoteTOP together:
1) Add SmartTOP and RemoteTOP as 2 separate items on the same order, instead of adding the combo package i.e. you only enter your credit card and address info once;
OR
2) Place one completed order for SmartTOP, and then subsequently place a 2nd entirely separate order for RemoteTOP i.e. you enter your credit card and address info twice.
Sorry if I'm a bit dense.
okay signed sealed...now waiting for the delivery!!!! Can't wait...thanks Dog, and about the Paypal donations......I just spend ALL my money...sorry....
Hey guys I jumped in on the Remote Top so there is one more for you that you were not counting on. I was planning on getting this in a few months but oh well $40 savings just means my time line has moved up. I already have the Smart Top which is wonderful.
Thanks
What Idocdes said
Wilhelmy, for some technical reason, just didn't want you trying to enter the code on their regular combo deal. Order them both on the same page, just as individual items. Wilhelmy will automatically apply the discount to both, and arrange free shipping and the inclusion of the free tool.
I just ordered the Smart Top so I am good to go. Awaiting confirmation email...check that, just got it as I write this. Thanks dog.
By the way Dell, I figured what the hell; it's a little mod to keep me happy and busy in the winter.
Hey guys. The webpage for the order details (link on the confirmation emails) says credit card payments should call in to give the credit card details. Did I type something wrong or is that just a standard form and I don't need to call?
I was able to pay by credit car on the site. Or at least I think I was, though I did get a confirmation email. Perhaps you clicked a button incorrectly?
UPDATE: Prog, you're right. I'll call and figure what that's about.
okay, sven just emailed me. he said you have to make it two separate orders. he will then combine them for shipping and the tool after the fact.
but you MUST DO A SEPARATE ORDER for each product to get the $40 off each item. i'm sure he will make the adjustment since the code is on there, but please follow this format if you are ordering both the smartop and the remotetop. go in and two completely separate orders.
thanks guys.
OK, still confused. Is this message consistent with your previous post i.e.
" Order them both on the same page, just as individual items."
or are you saying your previous post is inaccurate and we should completely fill in one form only for SmartTOP, completing the order. Then go back and fill in another form from start to finish for only RemoteTOP?
Sorry for being really really dense.
fill in one form for the purchase of one item.
close out that sale.
start a whole new form for the purchase of your other item.
close out that sale.
sven will combine the two with regards to shipping and the free tool. you will then get the $40 discount on each item, or a total combine discount of $80 on both.
I just spoke with to Stefan at Wilhelmy about this and he mentioned that if you got the confirmation email, then you are fine. The message on the order status web page about needing to call for credit card payment just needs to be removed as they have migrated to a newer online credit card payment system.
So, the long and short of it is that we are fine.
i just got my order in tonight.
however, we have more commitments on here than actual orders. those of you that are still interested, please get your orders in as soon as possible so they can begin shipping the first wave of products. this GB runs till the 10th for the rest of the stragglers, but let's try not to wait till the end or it will hold shipping up. they won't ship till we meet our minimum order commitment for the special pricing.
let's start a new list for who's already ordered. list your screen name and items purchased. just keep cutting and pasting your name to the bottom of the list as it gets longer. for example:

Sven told me that they had 8 orders for the smartop and 9 orders for the remote top. That was before I placed my order, so that puts us at 9 for the ST and 10 for the RT. Look like some people that have purchased, just haven't let us know yet.
Looks like we should be okay then.
FYI: This GB runs till 2-10-06, so anyone that's interested, feel free to jump in. once we have reached ten for each, they should start automatically shipping.

By the way, whoever is sending in the fake orders, please stop. Obviously we have no control over kids or pranksters reading the forum, but it's kind of embarassing to have these bogus orders listed under our GB.
Update... we made our ten for each . Orders will now start shipping.
This GB runs till the 10th, so anyone else that is interested is more than welcome to jump in.
any one is NJ/NY area wants to give me a hand install both?
it's my first p-car, and i surprised myself a few times already.
don't want to blow up this "simple" mod.
Should the company not be able to say how many orders we have? I know my confirmation email says "Rebate: RennlistGroupbuy -40.00 USD" which means they should have a track on this. If not I am sorry to whoever is tracking this because it could become painful to track the orders on word alone and with no confirmation. Outside that I double checked my order and it was on 2/2 and not 2/1 as I said above my invoice # 1001.
Thanks
a quick call to them solve it.
this is what happend when i put both of them in one order.
they will refund me automatically.
i also ask them to provide a video chip as install instructions.
NJ
i work in jersey city. should be easy to accross the river.
another member wants to get together for this as well.
maybe we start another thread for NJ/NYC group install?
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=Don
Those of you that just purchased might be interested in this post from another thread...Thanks Don
Nycebo, [order] 911... yeah! You got it!
DC, I installed the SmartTOP last summer. It's really nice... I just love being able to open or close the top as I'm pulling out/in of a parking spot. You'll love it.
JM
Same here, although I have the hardtop on for now. I'll have to wait until the weather gets a bit nicer to take it off and start enjoying the remoteTOP.
OK. they fixed my order:
Quantity Item Description Price Extended
1 ST996 SmartTOP 996 319.00 USD 319.00 USD
1 remtop remoteTOP 299.00 USD 299.00 USD
1 toolset Toolset fr RemoteTOP 0.00 USD 0.00 USD
Rebate/Discount RennlistGroupbuy -80.00 USD
Shipping USPS (free of charge)
Payment/Handling Credit Card
TOTAL 538.00 USD
Now when are they going to ship this thing? and when can i get it?
you know the weather here is soooooooooo nice for a while now.
I received the smartTOP unit today! I got the email saying it was shipped Friday but I didn't expect it to arrive so quickly. Too bad the weather in the D.C. area is supposed to be cold this week -- I hope the spring-like weather we've been having returns this weekend.
I placed my order right before midnight on Wednesday (2/1). By Thursday we hit the minimum 10 units for the group buy and Friday I got the email saying the order was shipped.
i put in my order on Thursday, and i believe mine is the order to exceed 10 order count.
will check my email when i got home, if not shipped, will call them tomorrow.
David, I live in the city. pl on this forum had also talked about trying to get together for the install. Why don't we try to coordinate?
As it happens, I am scheduled to be in Long Island in the late afternoon. Perhaps we can all try something before then?
mine shipped shipped from Kansas today, hope i should get before friday.
you guys want to get together for the install?
the weather won't be that nice though.
Got mine yesterday and installed both. SmartTOP was easy
, but RemoteTOP is a bugger to install
.
Maybe I will drive around the neighborhood later: top down, top up, top down, top up, top down, top up, top down top up, top down, top up, top down. . . until either the motor burns out or my ears fall off from frostbite.
Well, the car's not even a week old and I've popped the mod cherry. Now what do I do for a 2nd mod now that I've blown all my cash? Hmmmmm, anybody have an extra orange cap lying around?
FWIW the instructions are spot on and easy to follow. SmartTOP installation is easy and takes about 15 minutes. Installing RemoteTOP without removing the seat is tricky in the cramped space, especially pulling the plugs out. If I had to do it again I would probably unscrew the seat for better access.
yeah, i think i'll save myself the aggravation and take the seat out for the remote top.
did you take the box out for the remote top or leave it in there? the directions made it seem easier to just take the box out.
The box doesn't move much after it is unhooked from the floor. If you leave the seat in place the lack of room makes it hard to get any grip and leverage to remove the black plug (they aren't kidding when they say it is on pretty tight). After all the plugs are out, the box only comes halfway out, and so you're basically trying to align the pins by feel, which takes a few tries. Re-securing the box also took a few tries because the wiring harnesses don't have a lot of slack. Also you have to move the seat back and forth a few times if you don't get it right the first time. I figure you don't save any time by not removing seat because of all the extra fiddling around.
SmartTOP is not that difficult even if you can't see the pins because there is plenty of room to work and you can easily see and feel if the installation is correct. I didn't remove the box, but I did loosen the driver side screw to create a gap to insert the velcro strap. Also, the plug comes off pretty easily once you press the little release tab (it is just to the right of the white locking bracket). Everything plugs and unplugs without much force, I had no problem inserting the module. You know the pins are aligned right if the module just slides in easily, without much resistance. I rate the level of difficulty similar to adding a second hard drive on a PC, which I feel pretty comfortable doing.
Speaking of PC's I would advise discharging any static electricity by touching a bare metal object prior to handling any of the electronics, to prevent frying any circuits.
I guess the previous owner of my car didn't really clean it much, there was all kinds of dead leaves and crap in the crevices of the top mechanism, so I took the opportunity to vacuum it all out. Also I cleaned and appled anti-fog to the inside of the rear glass (I have an 2002) while I had the top folded back, it's easier than having to climb into the back seat.
BTW, it's pretty sweet. I opened the top today leaving the driveway with one touch, and closed it back up about 100 yards later with one touch (there was frost on the ground and it's frickin' cold!). The doors auto-locked at 10 mph and auto-unlocked when I got to my destination (a RemoteTOP feature).
Just so there's no confusion from Smack's post: SmartTop will not operate your door locks; RemoteTop is the product that locks and unlocks the doors for you. Of course, even if you didn't buy RemoteTop, a quick trip to your local dealer and they can activate the OEM door locking mechanism. Option 2 is the one that locks the doors automatically once the car hits a speed of 3-5 mph. However, the doors do not unlock on reaching your destination. You'll still have to pull the door handle twice to disengage the lock.
From the instruction manual, it appears that programming usually takes place by holding the key remote down for a number of seconds to adjust settings for RemoteTop. For SmartTop, you can disable some safety-features by holding the close top button for 12 seconds.
Here are the manuals so you can start reading in advance:

RemoteTop:

just installed both...
do your self a favor and try install option # 2 for the remote top....the seats remove easilly so you can see what you are dooing...Programing worked but im not sure how..."the blinking lights on the dash were not as easy to decipher as you would think"....smart top install was a piece of cake...
still didn't get mine....ordered it the same time as everybody else!!!!! I am getting impatient...can't wait to open and close without having to stand still, sit still and have my finger on the button!
Hopefully tomorrow!!!
Got it today.
Smart Top. In. That was pretty easy. I didn't take the computer thing all the way out. Just removed the screws and disconnected the left and middle harnesses. Frankly, I couldn't figure out how to get the right harness off. Anyway, allows you turn and manipulate the computer box so you can plug the Smart Top in. Piece O Cake. Works great.
You do get a "top not in end position error" when using the smart top feature while moving. It goes away as soon as the top is either all the way up or down.
Two questions on the remote top.
One, are the last two up upper pins on the right supposed to be bent and soldered together?
Two, how do you get the front plastic bolt covers off on the 996? I didn't see any screws and I didn't want to tug hard enough to break them.
okay, got it all in.
two questions.
when i arm the alarm with the top down, i get a beep from the horn. then it eventually arms.
second, when i put the top down with the remote, it puts the front windows up. any idea as to why?
I got it and installed it 5 minutes ago....very easy...I can't seem to program the "one touch" open and close from the key fob....anybody any ideas??
ABOUT
: "when i arm the alarm with the top down, i get a beep from the horn. then it eventually arms.
second, when i put the top down with the remote, it puts the front windows up. any idea as to why?"
MY OPINION: the windows always go up in the end when you put the top down...so nothing changed there.
the horn gives a sound because you armed the alarm as it would normally be with the roof closed
the alarm is to warn you that something is not shut well/closed (like your trunk, a window or door) in this case your roof is down, so the system makes you aware of this fact..that's all.
I went for a little drive and it all works like a charm....NO MORE EMERGENCY BREAK...and the doors lock when I drive off and unlock when I shut the engine off...and the rearwindows work as well.....it was and is worth every penny......if I could only figure out the one touch roof open function..guess I have to call the company...
okay, i got the beeping thing with the alarm figured out. dopey me left my trunk slightly open. it now arms and activates the motion sensor. very cool.
however, it still puts the front windows up when i put the top down with the smart remote. does everyone's do this?
as far as your one touch problem....
turn the key on
hold the door lock button the remote till the alarm light goes on and then goes off. you have to keep holding it till the light goes out again to enable that part of the programming mode. press the open top button on the dash
turn the ignition off
if i remember right, that should do it. mine works great. the remote top comes default with you having to hold the key remote button down to put the top down.
however, my car never put the windows up when i put my top down, so i don't know why it's doing it now.
For those having the same issue as me regarding the windows going up when putting down the top with the "remote top", here is the response i got from wilhelmy:
The windows: On all model years 2001 and later, Porsche (for whatever reason) didn't bother to carry
the signal if the top is fully opened to the central locking unit. Therefore the remoteTOP does not know
exactly when the top has reached the end position and has to rely on a high-resolution timer. If you don't
want the windows to roll up at the end of the opening cycle, do the following:
1. Close top and windows all the way.
2. Start the one-touch open cycle
3. When the top lid in the back just locks in place, but before the windows start moving, tap the little switch
above the rear view mirror (where the top mechanism usually hooks into) with your finger. This stops the timer
and saves the new timer value. From then on the top will go back but the windows will stay down. if you want
to reverse this procedure or set a new timer value, tap the switch within the first 8 seconds of opening cycle to
reset the timer to factory value.
i tried it and it worked fine. i haven't tested it yet to make sure it didn't interfere with the "smart top" operation yet though.
The led on my remote keeps flashing..when I keep it pressed (while in the ignition) it never stops flashing....the fobs are both brandnew....I haven't looked at it again..will try it again tomorrow.
Everything else is working fine.
My windows always came up at the end of the roof down cycle..which I liked, because I never drive with the windows down while the roof is down...too much wind...
My windows are tinted so the car looks odd when they are up with the top down. I will make sure to modify the open sequence so the windows don't automatically go up.
Like the color of your P...especially with the grey top!
Hope you get your stuff tomorrow! ( I have been modding a lot and am still waiting for a lot of them!)
the mod is very easy...and you don't have to take your seat out..or do much more than moving the liner un the back out of the way...the instruction manual is very good (with images)....hope you get them tomorrow..it is the coolest thing that you don't have to use the handbrake and that the doors lock when you put the keys in the ignition....being able to put up the rear windows while the roof is down helps too (my wife is always complaining about too much wind, even with a diffuser and that it is too cold) hopefully these mods help.
I always (except when it rains) drive with the top down.....love it...
Thank you. By the way I was checking out your website and could not believe my eyes. It is the best photography I have ever seen!!
If you ever get a chance to drive Angeles Crest Forest Mountain Highway, give me a call. I love that road.
Nick: You should check out speedbrigade.com
it is supposed to be a car forum, but it's mostly a photography community that takes pics of cars. i'm sure you would fit right in over there. you're quite the shutter bug.
I am not so lucky....my wife does most of the work: she picks the girls and makes them look pretty (hair/makeup/clothing) I just "shoot" them and touch them up in the computer.....but the job gives me a lot of time to play with the P. and buy mods..like the remote top and smart top...love it!!!
actually dog...my wife sounds like that....too windy..too cold..too...can we keep the roof up? please I am cold.....but I am a dog and tell her to turn the heat up and put a sweater on!
and thanks Chris...I wish I had the time to drive a little more..I hardly have the time...and try to find any excuse to get the P out of the garage.
sorry for the seperate replies...but I just didn't pay attention
DD, thanks for the group buy. It was awesome. Installed it today. It's freezing up here in the city and the blizzard is almost here, but it didn't stop me from driving the car up and down the road opening and closing the top to see how the SmartTop worked. Let's just say I had a ****-eating grin on my face the whole way. Cheap mod, but one of the best. And of course, it's going in the signature. Check it out...
Great job DD! That is many more units than we did when I did the last group buy...and mine was even better pricing! Obviously not due to me as much as them just selling for cheaper then than now. Go figure.
No, only the smarttop. Pl, it's pretty easy to do. My sticking point was a little different than everyone else's. Plugging the Wilhelmy module into the car's convertible top module took me a while (5 minutes) because I was overly concerned with bending a pin. Ultimately, it just slid right off. Let me know if you are concerned about doing it alone and I'd be happy to arrange something to help you out.
GROUP BUY HAS BEEN EXTEDNED 1 WEEK.
Just got an email from Sven to say that the buy with promo code RLGB060201 has been extended until Friday. I very much appreciate that as due to travel I missed the original deadline!!!
Thanks again for organizating this DD
Best
Keith
Installed both today.
Have on problem though and would appreciate some advice.
Here are the pictures. When the top is all the way open there is a space left behind. Does anyone know how to program the computer to close the space?
Thanks
That is totally normal. You probably never noticed it in the past. Rest assured this very question was asked during the last group buy and confirmed.
Now go enjoy that car!
It is so funny....the first time someone mentioned the "gap" I thought wow that sucks...the next day I glanced at my P and saw I had the same "gap"..but then again it took me 33 year to find out my nose was crooked...and I staring at it everyday brushing my teeth!
About the smart top/remote top...LOVE IT...I also like it that the doors now lock when I start the P especially when my wife is slow and gets locked out!!
Talk about a popular mod. I was showing my newly installed SmartTOP to my father, who drives a C4S Cab, before the snowstorm hit and he was hooked. He ordered one yesterday and Sven was cool enough to extend the group buy. Seems the mod bug hit him a bit. He had a bit of a fever and asked me to phone in a prescription of some interior carbon panel pieces for his car.
What's cool about the SmartTOP is the utter simplicity. You just click the button and go about your business. It's the beauty of the aftermarket.
Was on the freeway today, and the traffic was going about 5 miles an hour, you know the stop and go situation, it was so refreshing to just hit the button while moving and say ahhhhhhhhhh clear blue sky above!!!!
Lucky bastard!
I am sure you guys heard about the snow storm that hit the east coast and mid-atlantic. We only got about 9" here in Washington, D.C. but New York got hit worse. Anyway, I haven't installed the SmartTOP yet since my garage is not climate controlled and I don't like operating the top when the temperature is below 50 degrees. Hopefully it gets warm again soon.
Enjoy your summer, er, winter!
Thanks
Sorry to hear about the 9", not being able to drive the Porsche when you want is like not being able to have sex.
What are the dangers of operating the top below 50 but above 40 degrees?
dell, admit it, it's U
but seriously, they will increase their price again when spring comes, because their products gain faith from our consumers along the way.
pl.....I wish I could take all the credit but all I really did was organize the buy. Maybe I was able to talk it down a few bucks. I am still amazed that the price has risen so sharply over the last year.
How about if someone has a suggestion for a group buy they create a new thread e.g.:
Group Buy Suggestion: PART
and include a poll in it with a YES / NO / MAYBE vote.
That way we can better track what has some group consensus behind it.
Keith
let's do a new 997 turbo group buy and all fly to stuttgart to pick them up and drive them back to the USA.....by the time I got the money together someone will have build a bridge...and the Panamera Porsche will be a good used buy....especially the way I have been spending money on all the mods!
and there will be a 911 999 or 1000 tri turbo riding around.
Sure bub. Just first post a pic and introduce yourself to the group. Next, start a thread and see how much interest you generate. From memory, I think Stefan will specify that you bring about 10 ppl in order to offer a discounted price (though I'd be interested to see what that level is now).
he liked the way the last one went so much, he asked me to host another one for him. we just need to give it some time so that there would be enough interest. you need at least 10 of each product.
Suggestions.......
1. Start a NEW thread for the 3rd group buy.
2. Keep a running list going for interest.
3. Contact either myself or dog95 since we have both run the group buys for this product.
4. If dog95 is going to take the front on this then disregard #3
Hi,
I bought the SmartTop at the last Group buy, invoice no. 1007, packing slip no. 913, dated 03-02-2006.
But before reciving the SmartTop I have sold my 2001 996 Cab on bougth a 2002 996 Targa.
I havent even opened the envelop and of course not mounted the SmartTop.
If anyone is interested in a SmartTop I will sell it for GroupBuy price minus 10% and I will also pay shippingcost to you.
PayPal or Banktransfer.
Below you see my previous Cab and my new Targa.
Best from Claus,

Sven responded back and said that he is getting some interest in another group buy. ddog95 are you interested in getting a new one started to see where we are?
thanks!
There are 2 units. The smart top lets you control it from the button inside the car only. There is also the remote top which allows you to do it from the key remote only.
that's smarttop, i put it on last weekend, feel so cool.
plan to put the remote top on this weekend. anything i need to be careful about? i heard it's easier just un-instll the driver-seat?
Hi Group - Just got my 2000 C4 Cab and am interested in both the smarttop and remotetop. These things are getting a bit expensive though, so how much of a discount do we get with a group buy? Would this mod void my CPO status - I shopped around for quite a bit to find a CPO that fit all the criteria - so I'd hate to throw it away on a simple mod.
Thanks!
