The prices here are only falling not climbing, this differs from state to state and country to country, Thats good money for a 99, maybe you should think about a Caymen..I was just checking around and I saw an 01 with 3,500 miles for 35 k

aerokitted 996s are holding their value much better than your run of the mill 996.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I went to a dealer service day and the salesperson was talking to me about a new Cayman S. They went as far as to tell me what my 1999 Carrera with 32k miles on it was worth on trade. They offered me $37k trade-in on my car. I am not going to buy a Cayman S, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by that number. I have seen many sold on this board and Ebay for much less. I was thinking $28k-$29k on trade, so that was a $8k-$9k swing in my favor. Maybe the 99-01 996s are starting to rebound slightly. In my opinion that had really been undervalued for about 2 years.
They did noy have many on the lot. Also, that trade-in price was for anything that I wanted to buy. Including a Certified 2004 GT3 with only 1500 miles on it!! They actually just sold that car. That one had me thinking.
they won't be rebounding as in increasing in price anytime soon. they will continue to depreciate.
$28K for an aerokitted well maintained 911 996? oh heck no. aerokitted 996s are holding their value much better than your run of the mill 996. i'd say for your car without knowing any options can fetch $38K in the private party market.
I have a nicely equipped car with TC, LSD, Sport Chassis and 030 suspension. I also have factory carbon steering wheel, e-brake handle, shift **** and door thresholds. Finally, I have factory sport seats with body color painted seatbacks. Still, I thought $37k was a good trade-in value especially when you factor in the Ohio tax deal on trade-ins (you only pay the difference of the two cars value in tax) vs a private party sale.

The dealer did say that my car being Zenith Blue helped with the value. He said that the volume of cars in black, silver and red cause those colors to depreciate faster. He said the color helped them get a premium for the car without having to compete with a same color car on another lot. I guess that makes sense. I have him looking to find me a 99-01 body style GT3. I would consider a trade for that car. I do not really consider moving from a MY99 to a newer standard Carrera a worthwhile switch. I would be spending more money and have basically the same car. If I change, it would be to upgrade to a GT3.
I think you should give me the number of that dealer - I have a 99 I am just about ready to sell.
I spoke to a buddy of mine who is a sales manager at a local non-porsche dealer. He wholesale booked my car (C4 cab, nicely optioned) at around $38,600. He said that based on that a dealer would probably offer me around $34,500, and yours has 20K fewer miles than mine. Might not be too far off.
I will keep you guys posted though as I am about to get my car detailed and then list it for sale.
And I was told the more popular colors are worth more because they are easier to find a buyer for. My family has been in the car business for 35 years. Even Porsche salesmen will turn any situation to sound better. If you're serious about selling your car or just REALLY want to know it's value, i'd try getting the same offer from another dealer. Did they have any 997S Carrera's you could trade for? Now I'm curious what their game plan was and, only if you wanted, how you could take advantage of it.
The sales guy will probly not discount the car you buy from the dealer. He is just fishing you to get thinking about a new car. If you gives you a high trade in, he'll not discount the new car for more than a grand or two. In the end, you still come out about the same, maybe 1-2k more than if he had given you 30K for trade.
My watch shop did the same to me once. He offered me 1300 on a watch trade in. I bot the watch from the same shop 8 yrs ago for 1000! I am sure he won't discount the new watch much.
Get it???

Go back to the same Dealer and ask him what he'll pay you for your car. Tell him that you aren't interested in buying a new car at this time. I never mix the two transactions.
i took my pretty well optioned zenith blue 996 to the stealer in nashville and he similarly offered my 35-36k for my car, on a cayman or a 997 s cab
it actually made me think quite seriously about moving to the little croc
Actually that is much better than I thought. I like pleasant surprises! I like the Caymans S for sure, but I am worried it will become the next Audi TT in my neck of the woods. I work in a relatively affluent area and the Audi TT became the VW Beetle for housewives too rich to drive a Beetle. The same happened with the Boxster. I am just waiting for the Cayman to become the next "hot car" on the list.Maybe the fact that it is a hard top will keep that crowd away.
I just do not want to drive what many other people are driving. The Cayman S will be a great drive I am sure, but when you see 10 of them everytime you go out for a drive it becomes not so specail anymore. Maybe that is just me. YMMV.
It's not just you, it's called exclusivity. If you want an all around great car that gets you from point A to point B, than I don't think the 911 is a very good choice!!
Riad, you're so right. The 911 has become the VW Beetle of NYC and the Hamptons. But I don't drive it for exclusivity. I drive it because the damn thing puts a smile on my face every time I drill it on the Hutch and the Merritt Pkwys....not to mention the countless country roads in Westchester.
Too true!
Thankfully, P-cars (with the exception of Cayennes) are pretty rare in my neck of the woods
I can see in certain areas, if you want exclusivity you need to look at a F-cars and L-cars
But what is the plateau? I don't think any 996 will be worth less than $15k in the next decade with prices leveling off at around $30k. Why do I say that? 993 prices will remain high, perhaps a good 10k or so more than 996s. Traditionally, even older 70s or 80s well-maintained 911s have been selling between $15-30k. So I don't know why our '99s - '04s would command significantly less.
