Suggestion
It's not that a 996 with 130,000 miles is a bad car - many 3.0 911 SC's run over 300k - but it may be very difficult to find a buyer at all, other than someone looking for a track car.
Leading evidence: 'Run over 300k' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run over 300k' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm curious to hear thoughts on this car. I love all aspects of it...accept for the mileage (of course). But if I can get it for closer to (or under?) $30k, what do you think? ...worth the risk?

I hope that link works...
What do you think about buying a high mileage (75k and up) 996 in general?
Thanks in advance.
Doug,
I would have no issues buying a 996 with high mileage. However, I think you can do much better in that price range than that car.
Making sure you have the fully maintenance history is very important, and you could save a bit of cash if you don't plan on driving the car all year round by getting a C2 instead of the AWD C4.
Rob
Well I'm looking to go back to one car for me, so a C4 is ideal. However, I drove my last Boxster in winter w/o any problems, so I wouldn't have a problem attempting to drive a C2 in winter with a good set of winter tires. (..which I already have..) Julie will still have her Subie for winter traveling.
I would ask for a significant amount off of that car, FYI. I'm hoping to find something right around $30k or under. Not many options immediately around me, but I'll be looking.
Excellent...love to hear from owners with high mileage cars.
Being a 2000 makes me feel a little better than a 1999 model. (..although, that's probably an unwarranted fear..) At least the interior quality will be a bit better than a '99.
I sent an e-mail for info...we'll see.
The replies in this thread make me feel great about my recent purchase too. My 2000 996 C2 has much fewer miles, but I'm hoping to drive it for several years. It's good to hear that these cars are still reliable at high mileage and that people might still consider buying one.
I agree with the others. I'd have no problem buying that car after it passed an inspection. However, I think it should sell for a little less than the ask price.
Yeah I wouldnt mind the mileage but I certainly wouldnt pay that price! In my eyes a C4 doesn't really command a premium over a C2 in the general market (here in Vancouver it's worth less!) and I think you could buy a car like that for $28,500 if you kept your eyes open on Ebay.
A possible issue to remember is how you are going to sell the car in the future . Assuming you put another 30-40,000 miles on it you may have a difficult time selling the car when you are ready to get something else. It's not that a 996 with 130,000 miles is a bad car - many 3.0 911 SC's run over 300k - but it may be very difficult to find a buyer at all, other than someone looking for a track car.
Well,
theoretically
, this will be my last car for a while. Julie and I are planning a move to the PNW sometime in '08. So I would be keeping it for at least that long, and probably longer. So if I can find a decent $30k car, use if for three or four years, then only be able to sell it for a little over half that...I'd be ok with that. (..as long as it's a good car for the next three years!)
Doug,
Walk away from it. With the mileage on that car, it should be deep in the $20's. I've seen ones in the 65K-75K range going for $28K. Starting off close to $35K is just crazy. Remember if that is the mileage going in, think about how hard it will be to sell it in a year or 2 with over 100K. You probably won't even be able to find a Porsche dealer who would take it as a trade.
Hey Doug, I agree with 02, I bought a well optioned '99 with 43K miles and 10K miles on a new engine for $31K, It took a couple of months to find it, but there are definitely better deals out there
Looks like it's on eBay right now...

$29,400 and reserve not met. I doubt they'll come down. Oh well...moving on...
106,000 miles on my 99 cab and it was obviously a daily driver. One previous owner and the engine replacement @ 58,000 miles due to oil/coolant mixing. As Riad had stated it is important to have a full service history regardless of mileage and a solid PPI from a reputable source. This car was serviced at Pepe Porsche from new and followed all regular maintenance as required.
