Suggestion

Posts have been made that the 996 was never designed to run 19s, and claim that your suspension will fall apart if you do [or something to that affect], but I've never seen any true Porsche documentation substantiating that claim.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry if this is a basic question but I searched and can't find the answer. The 17 inch wheels look a little small to me. I used to have stock 19 inchers on my Infiniti G35 so how on earth can this much cooler car only have 17's? I assume they can fit 18's easily? 19's? Reason people don't put bigger wheels on their 996? Other thoughts on wheel sizes for 996's? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

POST 2Original post

This is my first post and my first Porsche! I have a new to me 1999 996 C2 with 19" that look great and I get a lot of compliments on them. I have the sport suspension option which makes them look great. They are 235 35 19 front and 285 30 19 rear. I will post a pic soon. By the way, I have been looking for over three years for my first Porsche!

POST 3Original post

crcjr1963 - holy crap, you waited 3 years for your first post ! welcome, start a thread, post some pics and introduce yourself sactown guy - youve been on this board for over a year and a half and dont know if 18's will fit your car, seriously ?

POST 4Original post

welcome both of you - 18" wheels are no problem 3 years is a long enough search I am hoping to see something really special !! Post some pics

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

sactown guy - youve been on this board for over a year and a half and dont know if 18's will fit your car, seriously ? I could see how it might seem like that. I made one post a year and a half ago and then got sidetracked until a couple weeks ago. I thus really just starting reading posts on here about two weeks ago and haven't seen anything about wheel sizes. I figured 18's would fit but was really wondering about 19's. I do not own a 911 yet so am just doing some research. Thanks.

POST 6Original post

I believe 17 and 18 were the norm. 19" will fit. Mines got the same as crcjr1963 but the rear is 275/30/19. I'm seeing a 5mph faster reading when going 55. I'll be at 55 but the speedo says 59 or 60 tracking things with the gps.

POST 7Original post

OEM wheel 18" sizes Front 18" by 8" wide - offset 50mm Rear 18" by 10" wide - offset 65mm

POST 8Original post

The speedo is off with stock tires too - do a search, there has been quite a few times this has come up and BTW taller tires would make the speedo slower then actual speed.....not faster

POST 9Original post

Tim, you really ought to be a Porsche dealer with your vast knowledge of the brand.( Do you contirbute this much on the Honda forum?) I always enjoy your contributions to the Rennlist family.

POST 10Original post

It's the opposite, and nowhere near 5 mph. With 275/30/19 tires, your speedo will read slightly slower than your actual speed. So if your speedo was exactly accurate with 255/40-17 rears, with the 19s it would read 1 mph slower than you were going. Thanks! No, I have been banned from multiple Honda Forums because I kept referring to my car as "the POS!" Hey, I just call it like I see it!

I can understand that. But then, he doesn't do stupid stuff that I just HAVE to make fun of!

POST 14Original post

I like my 18" wheels. Even as a daily driver the ride isn't that bad and I think they look much better on a 996 than the 17" sets. Plus compared to 19" the price for tires is somewhat reasonable.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are 235 35 19 front and 285 30 19 rear Yikes, that must be about $2,000 worth of tires and they probably don't last very long! I know the 19's on my Infiniti, were 35 profile, smaller in size, and they were still $1,500ish. They lasted about 30,000 miles. Oh well, hopefully I can find a nice 911 with 18's on it. I would like to see pictures of your 19's though.

POST 17Original post

My avatar shows my 911 before I bought it. Those are the 19's on it. I will post some pictures soon! I actually joined because I had a V10 TDI VW Touareg at the time and I would go to the Cayenne section for info and also dream about one day owning a 911. Now I am dreaming about a Turbo!

POST 18Original post

In case you want to know the stock sizes of tires for rims I've attached this pdf file.

POST 19Original post

I have 19's on mine, love the way they look. I have a C4S so i'm running 235/35/19 in the fronts & 315/25 19" for the rears I also have lowering springs.

This is 19" with 275/30/ rear and 235/35/ on 997 turbo wheels attached to a 1999 Carrera.

POST 21Original post

Here is mine. 235/35/19 front and 285/30/19 rear. It has the sport suspension which is about 10mm lower.

POST 24Original post

Generally speaking , and only from my experience, the wheels and tires are more expensive, there are significant handling, performance, and ride quality penalties, fitments and rubbing can be a challenge, and lastly, I think most folks here prefer to have a balance of aesthetics and performance, not just one or the other. JMHO, YMMV, my 0.02, etc I can appreciate the look [if done well], but the trade offs are not worth it to me. Posts have been made that the 996 was never designed to run 19s, and claim that your suspension will fall apart if you do [or something to that affect], but I've never seen any true Porsche documentation substantiating that claim.

POST 26Original post

mine came with 17's and I got another set in 18 on it now. 19's look better but I didnt think I would enjoy the ride in nyc on 19's too much
