Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
Supposedly, this is due to the fact that the newer paints are water-based.
Leading evidence: 'fact' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fact' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rattles (fixable' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Also check for rattles (fixable but time consuming).

I'm ok with replacing this part if it occurs again, but will this force me to replace the transmission prematurely as well?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone,
I've been searching for the past few months for a 996 cab, and there's one close by that seems absolutely perfect. It's a 99 with 49k miles, green with a tan leather interior. They are currently asking 33,900 for it, and I plan on getting a PPI done on it this weekend. I have a couple of questions and I would love to hear your feedback:
1. Do you think 33k is a fair price for the car?
2. It's had one rms replacement....will this haunt me forever when it's time to sell the car myself? I'm ok with replacing this part if it occurs again, but will this force me to replace the transmission prematurely as well?
3. Are there any other things on a 99 that would cause you to avoid purchasing one?
I'm definately getting ONE of these in the near future, and this one seems like an excellent value. What do you think?
Sounds like a good buy but color green will hurt resale. Presumably, that's why the price is low.
For RMS, if it was fixed a while ago, it's a good sign that it won't happen anymore. If it's a recent fix, cross your fingers. Doing an RMS usually involves a clutch job since the tranny gets separated from the engine. RMS doesn't ruin your tranny though, if that's what you are asking.
Check and double check the top. The plastic window tends to separate from the canvas. Also check for rattles (fixable but time consuming).
Thanks for the input my good man! I think the color is the reason for the low price as well, but fortunately (for me) I happen to love green cars. I'm very grateful to hear that the RMS problem does not instantly affect the tranny.
Sounds like a good deal if the car is in outstanding condition. The mileage and the color are factors bringing the price down. If you like green, terrific.
I bought my car knowing about the RMS issue - no big deal. Drive it and enjoy it.
I agree: the green is superb with the tan interior. The beige interior, especially makes the car look and feel like the expensive car it is. The green is interesting in that it takes on quite a range of tone and depth depending on the light conditions. Ask how I know
As for resale; I guess it depends on how you are selling the car. Long distance may be hurt by the color combo, but in person this color is more convincing that many others. My only real gripe about the paint is the paint quality itself rather than the color choices available. The paint is extremely thin and susceptible to rock chips. My previous 911s' paint was much harder and enamel-like. Supposedly, this is due to the fact that the newer paints are water-based. A real step backwards.
Enjoy the car!
Geert
P.S. Great price.
