Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Need quick answer on widest tires on 2001 w/ 17" OEM rims Buddy has a 2001 C2 with factory 17" rims and needs tires so needed to know what widest tires are that can go on 17x7 front and 17x8 rears? I was thinking 225 front and 275 rears should fit. Thx

POST 2Original post

The problem is available tire sizes. OEM is 205/50/17 & 255/40/17 & if you go any taller in the back you lose gear multiplication making the car accelerate slower. On a 8" wheel 265 is the widest I would go. For the front 225 is best & it's OK to go a little taller about 1/2".

POST 3Original post

8" rears, really? By 2001 I would have thought 9" or 10"

POST 4Original post

let me tell you a story..... I was always a fan of "the wider the better" BUT... after 2 seasons of new tires that were hardly worn but were so cupped and so loud, I went back to stock sizes... 2nd season on the stock size. and I cant feel a performance differance. wider isnt better
