Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I've done similar things I've used multiple layers to build it up.
Leading evidence: 'Use multiple layers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair carbon fiber' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First, thanks in advance for taking it easy on a noob. I was pretty active on the F-chat forums for a while, so I'm not a total novice. This is my first Porsche and it's a beaut. The interior is what really got me. The exterior is classic.
It's got a well worn 75k miles and showing a touch of age. I love the patina, but a couple things bug me. The main one is that wood portion of the steering wheel is cracking. I searched the forums and found some great ideas for replacement, but has anyone tried putting clear epoxy resin on the wheel? At worst I'll ruin the wheel and have to replace it anyway. I also have no idea how to make it smooth.
I'm really loving the post about "things people didn't know about their 996." I wish there was something like that for my old Ferrari.

Edited to add a pic of the exterior.
Welcome. That sounds like a reasonable fix. You can also get similar wood, sand it, mix it with the epoxy and make a filler out of it. When I've done similar things I've used multiple layers to build it up. Final finishing will be a little touchy to avoid damaging the surrounding material. Good luck with the fix.
First, welcome to the dark side, beware the steep, slippery slope of mods directly ahead!

Good luck!
A high end auto interior shop could probably do a flawless job for a couple hundred dollars.

Welcome, that interior looks great, not sure I've seen one with that dark of wood. Agreed, let's see an exterior shot as well. Congrats on the new 996, and welcome to RL.
Thanks. I think I successfully added a pic of the exterior. They tell me the Rosewood interior was a $10K addition, but I've never seen the original sticker. The exterior is a rich blue - possibly cobalt. The top is also blue, which I love. - DrC
Nice looking car!
My 04 996 has cracks on the steering wheel as well as the wood trim on the drivers door. Anyone know if that can be replaced or where I can get it? (not to steel your thread)
Let me know how the epoxy works on the wheel. I am interested to see how it turns out!
Beautiful interior!
If only the steering wheel was not so dead center in the tactile and visual driving experience. If this were a door handle or something you might be able to effect some repair. But with a steering wheel, even the slightest imperfections will be glaringly obvious. I can't imagine than anything short of some professional fix or complete replacement will be sufficient.
I really hadn't been looking all that hard. I sold my 328 GTS during the divorce and drove a Mini Cooper S for a while (don't knock it - I had a blast). I really needed another convertible as well as something my 10 and 15 year olds could ride in. It's a little cramped in the back for the young one, but he's all smiles back there (both kids hated the Mini).
From one newbie to another, welcome and congrats! I almost had tears come to my eyes when I saw that interior. SO beautiful.
I love the chocolate color on the 40th AE Boxster as well. (Don't know if it's available on 911's)
My 9yr old daughter wanted a Cab also, but I fell in love with my c2. Have fun with it and good luck with the steering wheel!
Welcome!
+1 for the exterior color being Ocean Blue Metallic, same as mine. Looks blue during the day, Black in the evening, and at twilight, it can look purple. I'm envious of your well-optioned interior. Congrats!
