Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The dealer said it was the first one they had ever replaced on a 996.
Leading evidence: 'first one they had ever replaced' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'first one they had ever replaced' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace on a 996' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Well, it turned out to be the Inner Tie Rod on the drivers side.

I had a similar creaking sound, which turned out to be the lower control arms.

I replaced the springs and lowered the car, replaced drivers strut, drivers top strut mount, Sway bar busings, sway bar drop links, Upper and Lower control arms and outer tie rod over the course of a year with no satisfactory results.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Everyone,
Thought I would share my happy day.
I've had a creaking noise in the suspension of my 1999 996 coupe (Drivers Side) for almost a year now. The creaking would get worse when the car was warmed up or if it was hot outside. Going over bumps, cracks, driveways, or just driving slow in general with bring the noises on. I replaced the springs and lowered the car, replaced drivers strut, drivers top strut mount, Sway bar busings, sway bar drop links, Upper and Lower control arms and outer tie rod over the course of a year with no satisfactory results. Suspension was a lot tighter and the car handle better, but creaking was still there. I took the car to 2 different dealers and no one could seem to find where the noise was coming from as the suspension was practically completely replaced. I found one more dealer and I demanded that they spend the day looking it over and test driving until they could find the problem. They basically disconnected each suspension part one by one until they could identify the part that was making the noise.
Well, it turned out to be the Inner Tie Rod on the drivers side. So, to anyone who has this problem please check the inner tie rods first if you have creaking in your suspension when the car is warm or it's hot out.
Drove the car home from the dealer and I had a smile on my face all the way home as I raced through the gears and listed to the sound of my Fabspeed exhaust instead of a creaking suspension.
Hope this helps someone out there.
Nick
The inner tie rod was the defective part. So, make sure both the inner and outer tie rods are checked. $225 for inner tied rod parts and labor and $159 for alignment.
The dealer said it was the first one they had ever replaced on a 996. So either a lot of people are driving around with this noise not knowing how or what to fix or it's pretty rare for tie rod to wear out like this.
