I then got desperate and used an old trick from military school.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you look at the photo below you can see something on the glass (plastic) ring on the lower left and lower right of the right and center ring. After removing it I fuiured it would be an easy clean. I found it would not come off. Now I ask: 1. CAN it be cleand off (and if so what? I trired Plexus and a microfibre. 2, If not must I replace the entire face plate (all five glass pieces and surround) Any ideas on cost? 3. Can the individual plastic windows be replaced? (although they seem to be glued in) Thanks. And thanks to Stefan for his link on how to remove this. (It was quite easy.

POST 3Original post

Try positing it to the concours forum. Several pro detailers check in regularly there and might have some suggestions.

POST 4Original post

John-I once got super glue on the same piece you have. I first tried GooGone found in most stores(autozone) but it only helped some. I then got desperate and used an old trick from military school. Try rubbing some Brasso gently into it with a cotton cloth. You might need to keep repeating it but it should come off. Good luck. I hope this helps.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, what is Brasso? I did find out from the dealer today that the only way this can be replaced is to get an entire new instrument cluster to the tune of $1600.00 plus re-programing.

POST 6Original post

Brasso is used to polish brass and other metals. It should be available at Walmart and usually in a metal rectangular can. Keep me posted.

POST 7Original post

I would try plastic polish by Mothers or other similar brands.

POST 8Original post

I had similar gunk on the interior of my gauge faces. I used a combination of McGuire's Clear Plastic Cleaner and Plastic Polish. It took a while with q-tips, baby washcloths, micor fiber towels etc, and you will forever see little marks that you missed. However, once it's all back together, it will look much better. Stefan

POST 9Original post

Please post the link for the removal of this piece! Mine is compromised in a couple of different ways (PPO botched a shiny trim install).

POST 10Original post

Brasso is what I didn't use to polish my brass when I was in ROTC in college - resulting in many demerits. It really is a great brass cleaner and tarnish remover.
